As a Wigan fan he might not of liked the prospect of handing a cup to the captain of either Leeds or Warrington.

He'd probably drop it under pressure or let it roll into touch.

| There are better choices out there but I don't think it's his fault he was chosen. Booing him would be poor form, he's not done anything wrong.
Wiggins would have been a much better choice though. Hell, almost any of our Team GB winners, the nation is riding high, they add instant legitimacy just being there.

| Perhaps the RFL did ask the Olympians and didn't get the best answer? Professional athletes like Wiggins will no doubt have stuff to do of their own, doesn't he ride for a team that has races at the moment? The likes of Ennis and the other recognisable medal winners would have media opportunities coming out of their ears, so potentially weren't available or willing.
As mentioned it seems this guy is very well connected and if he brings some money in why not? It also seems he's had RL exposure, so having a royal with business connections who likes League doesn't seem to be the worst idea ever.

But now with a company that could still benefit rugby league in SEL UK.

Mo Farah, a bigtime Arsenal fan, was supposed to have been presented on the pitch at the Emirates before the first game of the season. The appearance was cancelled because of a "sponsorship clash".
The RFL would have to be complete idiots not to have approached Wiggins and Ennis. It's out of their hands as to whether they could do it.
