| And we wonder why we never beat Australia.
I'm no fan of Wigans, but thier defence last week against Saints was one of the best i have seen in a number of years. if the rest of SL could defend like that we might have a chance against Australia.

| 2 men usually stop the momemtum, a third man 'running' in can be dangerous but what's to stop him just coming over and pulling up the attackers leg to stop his progress.
Don't just blame Wigan, Sad one

I don't think anyone has a problem with Wigans energetic and proud defence it is the underhand tactics being employed that are questioned. As stated if it were little Sam that got his career ended by say Ryan Bailey dropping on his knee like Lima did there would be uproar!

A bit sneaky from Graham.
Also on the same site, St Helens v Leeds 2009 just the biff, at 6:22 is James Graham running in on Ryan Bailey, but would anyone class this as dangerous?
Surely all this needs is policing by the ref so that the tackled player isn't 'attacked' when stationary/prone and undue force isn't placed on joints.

I'm not just blaming them. There are of course incidents when other players do it. Ban them all I say.

Like advocating the booing of our Sam?

Well if he didn't dive at players with his knees, trap arms, put pressure on joints and dive he probably wouldn't get boo'd.
Wigan fans seem to think it's a Wigan thing or because he's "the best player in the league" (he isn't) it's because he's a dirty little so & so who needs to cut it out before he rubs someone the wrong way on the pitch.

| Quote Saddened!="Saddened!"An interesting, although I suspect tongue in cheek twitter campaign is ongoing to outlaw a third man joining a tackle. Support includes Lee Briers and Richie Mathers. Wigan and Melbourne would no doubt throw their toys out of the pram over this, so I'd vote for it purely on those grounds.
Seems a valid idea to me. There are so many instances where two players stop the momentum, then a third comes in, usually a grub, and just hammers away at a player's kidneys or knee, purely intended to damage the ball carrier and add five or six seconds to the play the ball. Melbourne in particular are being moaned about for this in the NRL.
How about they change the rules so that its a penalty to join a tackle after the initial impact has happened? Gang tackling would still be possible as if you could get three into the initial tackle you wouldn't be penalised and effort in defense is rewarded, which is fine because in that situation it isn't dangerous. They could also make it illegal to join any tackle below the waist if the player is already being held. I reckon this rule change alone would strip a good few season ending knee injuries out very quickly.'"
I suspect you do not watch the NRL so have no informed opinion about the tackling technique of Melbourne.

No, the NRL bores me to tears. I do read the Aussie media on an RSS feed and there has been an awful lot of moaning about Melbourne's questionable techniques for the past month. I hate Melbourne as much as I hate Wigan. A grub organisation which thrives on cheating and simply cannot handle the thought of being on a level playing field with the other teams.

You could have said the same thing with much fewer words; 'I am a bitter idiot' would have sufficed.

To true, I used to love how players could strike at the play the ball, and also if there weren't any markers at the play the ball they could play it to themselves.
