His first sentence is spot on.

I could name two or three Wallabies at best. An example of the drop in public knowledge of Union in Australia is on MMM in Sydney this morning during a quiz, the question was "Which super 14 team will Matt Giteau play for in 2010?".

No one answered it correctly. And they only had 4 to choose from.

Giteau is the highest profile Union player in Australia by a country mile. If Jarryd Hayne moved teams, there wouldn't be a person in the state who wouldn't know. And it's very arguable if Hayne is the highest profile NRL player in Sydney.

In 2009 more people watched State of Origin than watched every Rugby Union telecast in Australia combined.

Attendances are on a downward spiral, ratings are embarrassing, interest is at an all-time low, the war-chest is gone, the only players who garnered any interest have gone, Union is on the slippery slide and the bottom hasn't been hit as yet.
