The UK may choose to go ahead with game behind closed doors or normal support in the next 4 weeks, but if France or more likely Canada is still in severe lockdown, we can't, adding to a longer delay. I realise that this is a unique situation, but this highlights a real issue with having non-UK teams in the league. We might be ready to get going and get revenue into the game but might be blocked by several more weeks.'"
Or it could well be the other way around

Not sure why you think that this government and it will be them and not SL that decide when to lift restrictions, why you think we might be ready before France or Canada.

France may be ready before us, but Canada probably after us.
The point is, having a single league split across multiple countries potentially adds further delay/complication as opposed to all members being from the same country. How would all the other clubs feel if 11 clubs are ready to get going but can't for several more weeks just because one club is based in a country still quarantined?

| Miles off happening but you'd assume if eleven, or even ten, clubs were good to go the other(s) would have to withdraw temporarily and have their results expunged.

| Well maybe if the Government didn’t have a bumbling baboon in charge a lockdown may have come a lot sooner. It was clear that as soon as Italy went into lockdown the rest of Europe should’ve done the same. Three weeks too late, cheers for that BJ!

you have to assume there is some other trigger that forces someone to even suggest bungling babboonery belongs in the same sentence as the current governments management of covid 19
some people are so completely consumed by the chip on their shoulders, they just can't get with the program without throwing crap in it.

Possibly the supermarket chains should have acted earlier. That’s the problem with this Country they put things in place when the damage has already been done.

It was clear to me that the transportation coming from China should of been stopped as soon as they realised there was a problem there but still allowed it to happen, the next critical step was to repatriate everyone to their country and not isolate them allowing it to spread again, compassion has got in the way of basic thought which is quite understandable and now we're doing what should of being doing in the first place.
Hey ho stay safe everyone and let's ride it out

AN UPDATE FOLLOWING TUESDAY'S SUPER LEAGUE BOARD MEETING
The Betfred Super League clubs held a Board meeting via conference call today, attended in part by senior officials of the Rugby Football League, for further discussion of how to respond to the current public health crisis.
After the meeting, Robert Elstone (Super League Executive Chairman) and Ralph Rimmer (RFL Chief Executive) issued the following joint statement.
“With the country having taken such unprecedented measures, the primary focus and priority for all has to be the public health emergency – an approach that is equally applicable for our overseas clubs.
"Rugby League clubs are deeply embedded in their communities, and we are committed as a sport to following Government advice and doing all we can to promote the importance of physical and mental health – for our supporters, players and colleagues.
"In line with the approach announced by the UK Government last night, we will regularly review the situation regarding the possibility of resuming fixtures – and remain as flexible as possible, in consultation with other partners, and with the key considerations of financial sustainability and player welfare.”
Ralph Rimmer added: "Following today’s meeting of Betfred Super League clubs, we will also be updating other sections of the game with the latest thinking regarding the suspension of the season, as the sensible approach is clearly to continue working on various scenarios while acknowledging the suspension is going to be considerably longer than the three-week period we had initially confirmed.
"The key for the sport is to continue acting in a collegiate, united and positive way.”
Robert Elstone added: "Super League and its Clubs are working round the clock to prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead and to ensure the sport is in the best possible place for when life returns to normal.
"Our priorities are the health of our players and staff and the economic well-being of our clubs.
"We welcome the government's proposals to help businesses, and in partnership with the RFL we are exploring all the options available to us.
"We are also keeping close to all our partners and, in particular, offering all our support to Sky Sports.
"Most of all, we are sticking together and looking out for the health of our families, friends and colleagues.
"Our sport has enviable values that stem from the behaviours and attitudes of all of us.
"These will be essential to emerging strong at some point in the near future.
"On behalf of all Super League clubs, we thank you for your loyalty and continued support."
