| Quote: wildshot "On balance Wakey played really well and Hull played really poorly, the two combined made a blow out score. Hull looked completely busted and were not match fit. Give them a few weeks and come the Super 8s when the teams play each other again I think it will be a much tighter affair. As much as I loved seeing Wakey win so convincingly I prefer to watch a competitive match.'"
It's hard to be too enthused about the 8s now. I guess we have to keep trying on the off chance that Warrington or Cas completely implode, but we look dead on our feet. Tbh I would be quite happy for us to play all the youngsters in the super 8s, finish 8th and be ready to go again next year.

I guess the only thing to play for now for the teams 5th to 8th is the additional income a club will receive from finishing higher in the league.

What's the difference in prize money between 5th and 8th? Anybody know?

I think it goes up in 50k increments per position.

| I thought all Super League clubs received the same barring Grand Final winners/runners up and Challenge Cup prize money?

| Think the 500k we made by going to Australia may mean that finishing 5th or 8th won't be that important this year

Hope so as an extra 200k for finishing 5th instead of 8th would be massive for Wakefield!

They came in good number and the majority stayed to the bitter end
I was there on Sunday and I stayed till the end. If you want to shout and cheer the good times (and the past two seasons have seen up have some good times), then IMO you have to see the other side of the coin.
Just to qualify the earlier poster commenting on Hull fans fighting amongst themselves. Its was THREE people, out of a travelling support of i'd say around 1200.
The strange thing is, after a defeat like that I should have been devastated. The reality is that it didn't bother me too much as the reality is we (Hull) have been clinging on to a misguided hope that with all our players back we could have a decent tilt for the top 4 and the GF.
Contributing factors were
Bringing players back from injury too soon (Shaul, Talanoa, Sneyd, Westerman, Paea) and it really backfired
Having too many fringe players (Logan, Down, Turget, Fash, Matongo, Abdul, Harris ) covering for injured senior players (Griffin, Manu, Minichello, Bowden, Kelly, Conner). These Fringe players have done well this season but have played too much senior rugby and it took its toll on Sunday. Introducing youth in is vital, but not 6 or 7 per game for most of the season.
Wakefield were pumped as it was their chance to secure survival. They ran strong, took their chances, defended well(althogh there was not that much to defend) and took advantage of every bounce of the ball. Hull never even had steam to run out of.
The one saving grace for Hull is that Wakey took their foot off the gas with about 15 mins to go. I genuinely beleive, they could have got 3 figures if they'd wanted to.

Thats a good summary. The difficulties of this season have taken their toll.
72-10 sounds like an utter hammering, and I guess it is, but in a game as brutal as RL you dont have to be a long way off 100% in terms of effort and energy for that to happen. Especially against a team who were essiently playing for their survival (not that I think the qualifiers would have posed them any problems, but they dont have to worry about it now).
I am sure we will pick ourselves up and take a few scalps before the season is over, and as difficult as this year has been at times I think it will help us grow in the long run.

Yeah at 72-0 with 15 minutes left I was thinking wow, there's no way we get less than 90. But then we took our foot off the gas a bit and I think Hull stepped up a bit too since, as bad as a 60 point defeat is, it will be forgotten in a few weeks whereas they were heading for a SL record defeat at one point.

Not so much foot off the gas as completely knackered imho. It was really hot and despite the adrenaline we just ran out of steam.
Truth is it was a freak result in terms of scoreline, these results always are. That said putting 72 points past a team that sits above you in the league is one hell of a feat no matter what the mitigating circumstance. Likewise some of Wakefields Rugby was sublime and would have beaten most teams any day of the week though not quite by such a margin.

| Indeed. Max's try under the post was a good skilful move with fast hands and fast feet
The double inside pass a la Melbourne Storm is always a winner of you are god enough to do it.
