Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

Leeds Rhinos would have made a profit had it not been for the South Stand needing major work.
And if Hull FC can make a profit from 12th, why can't anyone else?

They wont , neither will any existing heartland Championship clubs pull in the sort of investment you are reffering to

no, the rule is now 40% of turnover up to the present cap limit (although players under 21 are cap exempt).

953.jpg 2015 - major missed opportunity, 2016 - stronger teams = harder task (no problem there then), 2017 - OMG What now!!!:953.jpg |

| Not many till we went all american. Any that do the standards are secondary and they don't make a big deal about it in the press. Incidentally what are the Football Premier leagues standards for promotion.

I don't get how the standards are primary in my suggestion and secondary in, say, football. If a football club ever got denied promotion on standards (I'm sure it's happened between Conference and the Football League) would people still say it's secondary?
You've got to have it on the field as well as off it. To me, they're equal. The team with the best off-the-field stuff don't get promoted in the system I suggested, which means it is not primary.
Professional sport people. On and off the field. Not just one or the other.

Several reasons but I think ultimately the "RL Fan" is the only one that brings good things otherwise people just pull out when the going gets tough.
Nobody has more money than Richard Branson (and he claims to like RL) but when Broncos lost too much he pulled the plug anyway even though it was small change to him.

It was ever thus, I'm afraid. Sports clubs don't make money and if you looked at the NRL figures, they wouldn't be any better.
Though I would bare in mind that it is usually in a company's interests to declare a low a profit as possible because then they end up paying less tax and their accountants are paid money to minimise tax payments.

Agreed.
And I don't see any French candidates either (unless Paris gets off the ground).

FC Lézignan - French champions for past two seasons, say they want to join the championship.

Doesn't seem like it's a good idea - the town is about the size of Featherstone and it would further weaken the French Elite.

| Carcassonne, Lezignan and Limoux are three of the top 4 French Elite teams (the other is Pia from near Perpignan) and they are all close to each other in the Aude department so between them they could sustain a Championship side. May be difficult for them to go up to SL though and could be the death knell of the French Elite unless they all run separate sides there. Likewise Vaucluse (Avignon and Carpentras) could possibly get a side out, but this is less suitable. If I'm honest I'd rather see once Toulouse go up to SL (hopefully when they're ready) them have the Championship and French Elite as parallel leagues but it may be too difficult and a 14 team franchise Championship with 12 English and 2 French teams may be an alternative (automatic promotion and relegation between Championship and C1 is very destructive)

Translation anyone?!
Can't really comment until I know what it actually says. Good to see they're being ambitious, but id like to know a bit more about it before I think it's a good idea or not!
As for weakening the French league, I think they'd be best off splitting into regional divisions as well. The teams just aren't strong enough to go length of the country for competition. There certainly needs to be some sort of revamp in France, as the system is completely different for them now it's effectively the third tier and not the first.

Promotion has only ever been denied on safety grounds (I think Stevenage were the last, and they've since gone on to redevelop their ground) rather than how many fans they attract, what their business plan, whether they have any famous fans etc etc

What would be the point if they aren't ever going to be able to support a SL side?
Short of any mergers or any as yet hypothetical Mille / Paris / Lyon based club, I just can't see any clubs that would have the muscle to make it to SL.

Not sure how it will weaken the French Elite..
Because their best club has left it?
