Writing exclusively for the Gazette, Crusaders’ assistant coach Kevin Ellis said: “I know three games were going on the road while 10 were meant to be at Newport.
“But as I write I don’t yet know where the Crusaders will be based and there are strong rumours of a permanent move to Wrexham.
“I think it would be a tragedy and embarrassing if we moved to Wrexham as it’s only 30 minutes away from Widnes.
“I think that would be the wrong thing to do as all the development work in schools and the community down here would be wasted.”

| As it turns out some of the flatcap lot were probably right.
What annoys me most about the situation is Samuels...does anyone else get the impression he was always going to disappear once the ground was sold despite making numerous promises to the RFL.
In hindsight maybe the RFL should have called his 'now or never' bluff; truly embarrassing.
The lower league clubs a decent idea, only real issue being that any truly talented players will be picked off by union.
Give it a year in wrexham, it's still wales but the culture if you will is just an extension of northern England, i have mates I see pretty regularly from there and im in warrington, its just not...wales
has this decision been on the cards a while? It would make sense with a couple of potential signings from the north

Tragic though this is it really just does confirm that Rugby League is the sort of sport that will never flourish with any success outside of the 'M62 corridor'
Yes... Catalans Dragons have made a good go of it...although that is possibly down to the history of RL in France which has encouraged the locals to embrace it with more enthusiasm than the people of South Wales.
So it makes perfect sense for a Welsh club to be based in Wrexham...at least its closer for the majority of rival SL clubs supporters to travel to matches.

Didnt Samuels spit his dummy out with the union side he backed?

Yes, and that was a point raised on here many moons ago, but the RFL seemingly ignored the fact that he had 'form'. With or without his money, I don't think it was particularly likely that they would be a success until the infrastructure was in place.

Isn't that like us saying that you're in favour of expansion so long as it is rushed, costs millions to run and ultimately goes bust in the first season or two?
The point being, neither are true, but it is easy to make something seem like something else to make yourself feel bigger.

That's the problem with these people they are unable to comprehend anyone's opinion that differs from theirs so they twist it to discredit them and suit their own agenda. You have to feel sorry for them.

This derogatory term is used by the type of people whom the RFL's decision didn't directly affect but who want the game to spread. They don't care at what cost just so long as it doesn't get in their own clubs way.
Flunky's, stooges, in one sense Nimby's - history is full of them.
I'm sure all of us [iflatcappers[/i want the game to expand but could see that Celtic Crusaders were ill equipped to do so and now we may be seen as bitter [i'I told you so's'[/i.
I hope Celtic prosper when they are fully equipped to do so but we are now reaping the rewards of an organisation (The RFL) who can't see past the next batch of dosh from News International.

What a joke! I never supported the inclusion of them, they were far too young a clu,b and although they started last year reasonably well they look a total dead duck whether they play in Newport or Wrexham.
They should bin them off now in my view!
