[quote="The Reason":3e09qe5x]Hi Andy
The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.

There will be low end earner squad filling movement I can agree.
Teams with genuine space are probably the Raiders and Titans, and other teams nobody who's any good really wants to play for.
If Souths had the space they would sign Burgess, they might off load a player like Walker to make space but only coz they want rid due to the drugs, Penrith could be a club looking for players but Idris is gone due to issues. Gould and Penrith are all about building culture so Walker is probably off their radar.
At this stage Souths have got to clear some space quick without wrecking their squad. People have missed the elephant in the room which is Burgess and Madge don't like each other. The word is a lot of those blokes are playing for Crowe not Madge.
I don't think it's as straight forward as you do.'"
Turns out it was.
Madge and Sam were texting each other during the grand final, must hate each other.

| Rabbitohs head coach Michael Maguire said he "could not be happier to see Sam coming home to the Rabbitohs".
"He had an enormously positive impact on our club, both on and off the field, throughout the five seasons he was here, and to be bringing back one of the game's most dominant players is fantastic for not only our club, but the game itself," added Maguire.

And on Radio 2 the quotes were around "no blame attached for England's lack of success on Burgess" in what I could describe as a sarcastic tone followed by "“But with his return to rugby league we’ve reached one of the all-time lows and most embarrassing points in English rugby history."
www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/n ... -rabbitohs
The way that it came over didn't seem to sound like the bashing of the RU that Woodward was giving.

| As I predicted - press releases talk about Sam's family life. Good way to keep everyone looking good!

| As a matter of interest, which aspect of RU was Sam unable to master? Was it the pushing, the grunting or the standing around with his hands on his hips waiting for the game to restart?

| Interesting that Your Call on 5 Live this morning was about Sam's return to RL - lots of talk about RU's failure to manage him properly and how the U-turn was an embarrassment to RU. I remember no such debate when he made the switch in the first place - the news then was all about the value to RU, with no lamenting the loss to League.
Jon Wilkin gave an intelligent and reasoned contribution by the way - avoided the temptation to talk up RL in favour of RU, but was very clear about Burgess' qualities as a man and a player - and how those qualities would be utilised in RL.

Wilkin unscripted is superb. Unfortunately this appears to happen less and less these days. Either he's toeing the line to curry favour with his pro-establishment BBC benefactors - or he's wearing his player's union hat.
One or the other - the end result invariably seems like it's been spat out of a giant risk-assessment calculation.
IMO, punditry has nothing to do with the number of syllables you can stuff into a soundbite. You have to be willing to say those unpleasant things which need saying - even if by doing so you are risking your career.
Far too many players appear to act as though SKY & the BBC are a revenue stream which can and must be milked for as long as possible once the foot is in the door. The idea that punditry is a career rather than a temporary sounding board for honest opinion is a relatively new phenomenon (mostly derived from the Premiership). No player is so interesting that we must be forced to suffer him for decades - especially when he's doing his level best to be anything other than spontaneous, independent and, well ... honest.

I thought Wilkins analogy of the two codes was very good. Comparing Union to Chess (More technical, slower, specific roles) and League to Draughts (More Open play and faster). Wilkin and l should imagine many league players fully understand that the technical restrictive side of union is difficult to muster. Far easier for a Union player to adapt to Leagues running game, I can't think of one high profile British League Player to become a star player in Union other than Robinson.
The problem with Sam as mentioned is the England set up which is far more technical and restrictive than the All Backs, Australia, Argentina and Wales who have better passing games.

It was a good comparison in the context wilkin was using it - If you think of union as chess, then league is checkers. The simpler more open game. I don't understand what's so ridiculous.

| In context, it made perfect sense; he talked about the beauty of league being in it's simplicity - and that it required a greater level of work rate and intensity - both qualities that Burgess can deliver on in spades.
On the punditry point - Peacock had sufficient bottle to call out the snobbery of RU in the test preview earlier today - much to Davies' annoyance. Good on him for that.
Anyhow - while RU gazes at its own navel for the next 12 months, Sam is back in the game; and the next big name who Farrell targets will likely think twice, having seen Burgess' treatment at the hands of the RU establishment.
