However you sugar coat it, getting less than 2000 to a supposedly top league pro sports club is embarrasing for the game. They should be put on notice that they either sort out their fanbase or they drop down. Being a protected species isn't doing them any favours as there seems to be little investment, intent or interest in getting people through the gate.

I have been saying that for 8 years now.............but nobody there would ever listen. The marketing plan in my signature would cost less than 20k to implement.....but would invove hard work so there's no chance of it being implemented.
I have no doubt that there were more than 2k there for the game yesterday.........but in reality, they need 8' to be self sufficient

What would they gain from lieing though? Doesn't make sense, if anything you'd think they'd inflate the crowds so that people get the wrong impression that the experiment's big enough for SL.

I agree with you & gutterfax (who has made some very good points throughout this thread). It does seem the more & more Quins get support the less the club seems to promote itself (from what I gather). With the RFL taking over / helping with development work surely that would give a platform to improve marketing?

You can have 1 million kids playing RL in the region but that doesn't bring any money into the club and how long can the chairman keep putting money in? Bare in mind we are a game governed in a franchise system having crowds of 1,700 is a big, big worry!

You can't take away from the growing youth & amateur scene in London and however much directly that goes to Quins. The youth production is now working well (would lose a link if lost Quins brand?) and the win against Cru is also very good. But a Championship club with 300k cap couldn't run on 1,700 crowds never mind SL!

1766 paying fans was very disappointing. Not defending the figures but the bums on seats were no worse than the Crusaders game last year. We only have about 600 season ticket holders and the rest turn up when they want, or when finances allow. Disappointed but attendances will pick up with the bigger games, with both home and away fans turning up in greater numbers, especially if Quins continue to be competitive and the pitches dry out.

So a team containing a guy who was SL top scorer 3 times in 4 seasons and who's played many times for England can beat a championship team's academy, in a pre-season friendly at home. Who'd have thought it? Hope things work out for Joe Mellor - he was being touted by some as the next Sam Tomkins when he was at Wigan.

As for the crowd - if it's the wrong total, it will be because they didn't add up properly, not because someone deliberately lied about it. Happened several times at several clubs last season - I remember a game at Barrow where they forgot to add the season tickets onto the published crowd figures.

So the clubs safety officer didnt know how many fans were is the ground , if that is the case somebody would get sacked

I think this is one of those cases where cock-up is hugely more likely than conspiracy.
