| You fools can you not see? In whatever form it takes (Yorks V Lancs, East v West, Possibles v Probables) we must have another representative tier within the game FOR ENGLAND/GB PLAYERS ONLY. The Exiles game? What nonsense this is. Why are we limiting the exposure of our own players to a representative higher tier in this way? We could have 34-40 of our own players with this exposure every season which would help to prepare them for international football. What do we do-give this exposure to second rate imports over our own. Lets not kid ourselves here. The Exiles was a second rate import team and not one of those players would land an Origin or a Kangaroos/NZ spot over here. It is an embarrasment that we did not hammer this team.
Give 40 of our blokes the chance to fight it our for an international spot over a three game series and you would see real intensity and players develop into international players before your eyes. Why can we not look after our own and add our own signature to the way we play? I'll give you a perfect illustration of why. We have a league full of Australian coaches like Mick Potter who would rather play an appallingly slow, 3rd rate Australian player such as Mark Herbert over a developing, raw local talent like Kyle Briggs because he is apparantly 'better defensively'. Briggs has now been shipped out on loan. We must maximise the limited opportunities we have in our game for players and coaches and remove the likes of Potter and Herbert now! I know all the arguments about visas and grandparent rules so lets further incentivise the clubs to develop origin players financially so it is not worth bringing these people over. We could use this new series as a vehicle to achieve this and it will need some radical thinking around the size of Superleague and it's length to make it fit the calendar. Having lived in Brisbane now for a year and witnessed the stunning origin spectacle, I am now even more convinced that the lack of terrestrial TV exposure and Australian/NZ imports are the major blight on our game and until this is corrected and we start to play the game in our own style, with our own core values we will never be competitive internationally. I could live with never winning another series against Australia in my lifetime as long as we were trying to do it in our own way. We must increase our terrestrial TV exposure, commit to this new series in the long term and save the Challenge Cup. How can we stand and watch this wonderful competition die like this? It's about time we regained some dignity even if it means losing for another 40 years, because the strategy of importing everything Australian clearly does not work.
As the TV deal negotiations are on-going, now is the time to build and commit to this three game series in whatever form it takes and stop penalising our own. The question of whether it should be Yorks V Lancs misses the point completely.

| give it another 5 years and London would hammer both of them....we've got 457,956,001 kids playing the game down here now
Answer...yes. It has more going for it than the exiles game, that's for sure.

| Quote: Kippaxer "It's had it's day IMO. It was tried again and folk didn't get behind it.
If both front rows had erupted and had a 5 minute brawl with fisticuffs galore then it might have created some talking points and folk left itching for the next match.
Instead it was a half hearted damp squib of an event.'"
Crowds got behind it, especially in Yorkshire. It was the players who weren't mad keen.

| Only way I'd like this back is if it was played at the level under England.
Blank weekend.
England vs Exiles
Yorkshire vs Lancashire
Cumbria vs The South
Wales vs France
Ireland vs Scotland
The county games would help fringe players compete, with the ultimate goal of getting either into the England squad or the Knights squad.

| Taking out the England/Exiles playersEngland
...then the Yorkshire squad may look a bit like this:
1. Richard Mathers;
2. Michael Lawrence, 3. Kirk Yeaman, 4. Kris Welham, 5. Richard Owen;
6. Danny Orr, 7. Rob Burrow;
8. Eorl Crabtree, 9. Ryan Hudson, 10. Andy Lynch (c);
11. Joe Westerman, 12. Danny Kirmond;
13. Jamie Langley.
14. Danny Houghton, 15. Darrell Griffin, 16. Elliott Whitehead, 17. Kallum Watkins.
Just done that quickly off top of my head. Pretty sure I've missed a few.

| Not interested, boring...
When will people realise that in this country we are only interested in watching our own club side.
This is a fact.

| Yes, but they have to have it as the ONLY way you can get into the England side. Have it as a trial in the same way that Origin is in Australia. Play well for Lancs or Yorks and you're in. Don't, and you're not.
Last week for example Roby pulls out and then plays for Saints. He knows that he'll be in the England side come November. If he knew he wouldn't be I'll put my house on it that he would have played.
Yes you can have the odd extreme circumstance. If Roby was injured for a long period and missed all 3 games then obv the coach could pick him as a wildcard, but putting club before country would not suffice and the International door would be closed.

| Phil Clark from his latest sky blog. Pretty much sums up the reasons why it is not a oood idea!
Quote: "War of the Roses
Phil why can't we get the War of the Roses back on? All what you hear on Sky is 'state this and state of origin that'. Let's get ours back on then the British game can move on as well, plus the England camp will see all the player who are playing well and on form.

| People who say wigan st helens etc are not in lancashire are idiots, york and hull are not in Yorkshire by the same reasoning - it's just plain wrong
as for how those from outside the two counties would play in the game, how do those from victoria, new zealand or the pacific islands play in the origin games?
