In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

Good on them, so if it works in Melbourne why not branch out a bit further in Australia before looking at options like England, as i said I would have thought Western Australia would be a prime target to spread the game.

depends on the pov.
i dont see any arrogance.
i see people that dont watch the game saying its a bad idea.
thats sounds like a poor way to make a decision on something
and i think the idea that an australian game is needed to help RL in england is also something that is making people feel insecure.

| Quote: dally messenger "the tri nations final in 2005 didnt involve a local side and still got a very good crowd.'"
The tri-nations final was held in Leeds which is in RL heartland. Over here internationals carry far more weight than what the war of the roses did and what origin does, so people will be more willing to attend.
Origin may have boosted RL interest in Melbourne and helped to increase the Storms crowds, but that just will not work in London. For the vast majority of Londoners if it isn't soccer than they just don't want to know.

No the Idea that an Australian thinks the sport of RL in England needs an Australian game for it to expand is where the arrogance comes in.
I watch the SoO and i will be lucky enough to see a fair few live in the next few years, but I cannot see what help it would do playing it at wembley, sure it would be a novelty and I'm sure it would sell a few tickets but as for expanding the game in this country i just cannot see how it would help.

the idea that it would be a good idea in england.
to say it would be a good idea elsewhere is irrelevant
why did leeds and souths play in jacksonville.
they couldve played it in WA as well?

hey ive thrown in russel crowe to publicise it.
because of the publicity he created for the leeds / souths game they got 13,000 or so as a crowd and they were on shows like the TOnight Show with Jay Leno

its something different that RL cant offer the english public, and its something unique to english sport.
so the novlety would be a big attraction.
the fact that it is very entertaining will also help more people become interested in RL.
