Quote: Levrier "I just sat down to watch the first episode of Gordon, Gino and Fred's American Road Trip. What an utter T*t Gino comes over as. It has the feeling of a Top Gear rip off without any of the charm. All three present themselves as the kind of people you would not want to run in to on the local high street after dark with Gino being the one that you would expect to get arrested having glassed some bar staff. They have absolutely no chemistry. You could just imagine in the pitch to the BBC someone suggesting a programme that was a cross between said Top Gear and The Hangover. Soft and tired TV aimed at those people who find vomiting into an open topped car funny.
Me and the wife watched about 5 minutes of it last week. It's appalling. It's typical of today's celeb TV, where the celebs and agents must get together and discuss how they can make a TV programme in the name of comedy/food/research, but with a free holiday thrown in for their mates or family.

See also:
Breaking Dad - Bradley Walsh and his son on a once in a lifetime road trip across the USA.
Asian Provocateur - Romesh Ranganathan on various jollies with his mum.
Travels with my Father - Jack Whitehall on various jollies with his dad.
The Trip - Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon visit various restaurants around England, Italy, Spain and Greece. (I don't actually mind this one).

War of the Worlds - FOX - 2019

This eight part series from FOX is well worth a binge watch, and streets ahead of the BBC's insipid re-telling from earlier in the year.

Gabriel Byrne, Stephen Campbell-Moore, Elizabeth McGovern and Daisy Edgar-Jones are all recognisable faces who fare well with an interesting script, a dark atmosphere, and a slow creeping dread. Some clunky set pieces are a slight distraction (cars parked at jaunty angles but without any collisions) but don’t detract too much from the story telling.

Set in France and the UK, with dual language dialogue, it reimagines the H.G. Wells classic adding a modern mechanical twist. There are plenty of diverse characters to carry the story along and all have the ability to be relatable and earn your affection. The ‘baddies’ are pretty sinister and terrifying.

The only slight gripe is that series one doesn’t reach a conclusion, probably setting up a series two.

A decent 8/10.

BRIGHT (Netflix, Leathal Weapon with mythical beingsa nd a big of social tension)

There is only one more way to get "f**k" into this film, and that is in my review, it is 'f'ng awful!

If anyone can recommend anything that I should watch I would appreciate it, am thinking of the free Amazon to watch Picard, but not sure it would spoil how good Patrick Stewart used to be...

Ozark - Netflix - 3 series of 10 episodes

I'm late to this but wow. Definitely not a poor mans Breaking Bad and stands brilliantly on its own as a masterclass in writing and atmosphere development with excellent direction and plot twists which would do a HBO writer in their heyday justice.

I don't think I've ever watched something where every single character is a total sociopath!

I've just watched the season one finale and will be starting on season two tonight. Not sure how it gets better, or how they follow that season one final episode!

Highly recommended.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4905554/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
I've been watching Jack Irish for a few years on and off, it stars Guy Pearce and there are details on the IMDb link - but be careful there could be some spoilers. There are 3 stand alone TV films to watch first, which run as a character serial and then two series of six episodes. It's a while ago since I saw the films but I recollect the 3rd film being the more accessible of the bunch and it has a very familiar face as a guest star. The series of six episodes are separate story arches which follow on from the films character developments but they can be watched in isolation (forgive the pun). You're looking at 6 hour binges. I would rate it as a 7/10, it isn't too fanciful but it's strengths are in its change of scene and its characters, you'll take to them straight away and its always good to see a bit of Australia. I think the main problem you may encounter is tracking them down, I got them from a man who has a dog.....etc.. however they could be on Netflix.

Ready player one - Amazon Prime, mich better than I expected.
Picard - Amazon Prime, very good, could have been brilliant but too much contrived romance etc, maybe 2 too many episodes in the season.

I was surprised by Ready Player One, not usually my kind of thing but very enjoyable. Also agree on Picard, very good for the most part but some elements a little drawn out.

Finished Ozark season three now. What a final scene!

Watched Jo Jo Rabbit last night and not 100% sure. Good film, well made, well produced but didn’t sit quite right. Laughter and tears in almost equal measure while poking fun at fascism, what’s not to like? I understand what it was trying to do, and to say, but not sure it hit home. Very quirky, wont be for everyone, worth persevering with though.

Watched Jo Jo Rabbit twice now, and I agree, I still don't quite get it.

Found Spaceballs on a "rbp" channel, still funny! "Use the Schwartz!"

Hunters - Amazon Prime.
The premise is very good until episode 4, then the plot twists become obvious (well, they did to me). All in all very well put together but, like Picard, strangely contorted to be less than the sum of it's parts by the end. A massive miss from Amazon to go "Marvelistic" with something that could have been genuinely interesting. They are doing a second series, which I imagine will be the last (it should be), unless they indulge in some Dallas-esque shower/dream sequence to bring cast members back.

Devils Advocate - have flicked past this so many times, for some reason I watched it today, and what a film! I wouldn't describe it as a horror, just very strange.

Safe - Netflix

Twist a minute binge fest which saw us watch all 8 episodes over two nights. Once you get over Michael C Hall’s slightly awkward British middle-class accent it a good watch. Filmed in parts of the world I know; Manchester, Salford and Liverpool, it canteras along at a good place. Cliff-hangers at the end of almost every episode and had me unable to spot the ‘killer’ until midway through the penultimate episode. Well worth a watch. A good 8/10.

Oh, but you’ll have to turn a blind eye to some of the technical mistakes (IT).

Netflix

eurovision-the story of fire saga

.......downright silly, bad accents, ott singers/songs but strangely addictive...if you suffer and enjoy eurovision every year you will love it...if you dont...you will hate it.....the songs are very good, catchy and very eurovision, plenty of cameos from past winners....but its the final song after the event that will get you singing and demanding it to be played in pubs once they re-open! PLAY JAJA Ding Dong!!!

The Order

completed season one..quite surprised how good the first series was..10 episodes completed over 2 days. A magic cult set in a us college is infiltrated by a young student who wants to find out how his mother died....students start being picked off one by one who are pledges wanting to join The Order...about to start season 2 so here's hoping its as good as the first.

Hollywood

Excellent....be aware lots of sex, sexual references, racism and homophobia and exploitation....but it is set in the Golden Age of Hollywood films. only problem was it wasn't long enough...8 episodes.

Salvation

watched both series..then found out it got cancelled so left on a what happens next......

Asteroid discovered to be heading to earth by a student, teams up with a multi millionaire who has built an arc style space ship (just in case), us government knows and bumps off anyone who tries to tell....a US coup by the presidents staff and army ...russian threatens war with the US...but both are being held to ransom by a cyber terrorist group....first season was good...second seemed to drag on through the middle but picked up towards the end.

The Floor Is Lava

idea is good and fun....gave up after 2 episodes due to the over the top egotistical american contestants who felt the need to shout louder each time they spoke to each other.

Currently into week 14 of shielding so just a few programmes i've got round to watch atm
