| I hope we can develop into a club that are self sustainable.
I think it could be a way off but not unachievable.

| Some very rough guestimates about incomes:
RFL grant = 1.1million (although nobody has been able to refernece that sa a fact)
Gates= 1.5million+ (avergae 7,000)
Sponsorship, merchandise etc 400k+
means most clubs should be at the 3million+ income level
Salaries for players, coaches etc is probably somewhere around 2million so not sure why clubs don't make profits.

| Don't forget JB how much it actually costs to run and service a stadium come match days and in the off season! Add to that any debts or the money being plugged into grass roots/development. I also reckon the higher spending salary cap clubs are hitting the 2.3/2.5 million mark for all wages concerned in running the business side of things along with the playing/coaching staff. But yerr any club averaging over 7000ish should be breaking even I reckon.

| RL clubs arent supposed to make a profits. in the NRL only 1 or 2 do make profits, the rest rely on income from other sources (leagues club, sugar daddy, news ltd) to cover the shortfall each clubs has
to operate an NRL club you need around $15 million, the top clubs spend $20 million, whilst the amount of money from TV is only around $3.5 million

It's a bit different in Australia though Dally, especially in the running costs.
In the UK clubs are run as a business that hopefully will be self sustaining.
There are some clubs with sugar daddies and without them the club would struggle but there's certainly a few clubs self sustaining/profit making, thinking, Leeds, Wigan, Hull, Warrington, Hull KR, Catalans. I bet Huddersfield arent FAR off either this year.

Do the Quins have a full time CEO and marketing man yet ? , maybe they shouldn't get the 1.2 million until they have
We have a ft commercial manager and a ft media manager and other staff looking after the sales and marketing side. The ft CEO role is currently vacant, but we have a pretty strong board looking after things.

think its fairly similar.
in SL, if you want to spend the full salary cap then in general you need an outside backer as crowds, sponsorship and TV arent enough (maybe wigan are self sustaining, and probably leeds as well?)
which is what it is in the nrl except for the broncos.
with the current salary cap the broncos can spend the full amount and still make a profit of $2 - 3 million pa.

| I'd have thought in SL that if you averaged over 7000ish then you could be pretty much at the cap without an overly wealthy backer with too much input. The amounts needed are nowhere near that of the NRL clubs.
Again, could be wrong.

Cas averaged 7500 last year, and spent about 1.1 million.

| hmm but the extra 300k would take you to 1.4 mill.
It might need to be 8500 then but either way you could run a decent club on that without the need for a director putting a fortune in.
Plus I bet Cas spend a lot on ground maintenence like Saints do.
Can't remember what they were but saints announced their figures a few months ago and i remember being quite astonished at what it costs them to keep KR in a health certificate.

I believe cas will be spending 1.35 million this year with an aim of spending full cap next year though the economy may alter those plans somewhat.

This info is for the year ending Nov 2007, so is a little out of date, but should still prove interesting reading for people on this thread:
www.warringtonwolves.org/news/Wolves38519.ink
Basically, Warrington's Income for 2007 was £4.873m and Expenditure was £4.775m - so an operating profit of £98k.
