| Quote: Michael_Ward "If it is all divvied up up between 14 SL clubs over 5 years then it's close to £1.3m each every year. Very good deal IMHO.
I would like to see the RFL expand SL to include Leigh (biased) and Halifax as I believe that they're the final two clubs deserving of a place.
Divvying it up between 16 clubs over £5 years would still give the team £1.125m each. The RFL could give £1m to each club every season, and that would cost them 80. Giving the RFL £10m to do with as it sees fit.
If we had a 16 team SL and a 19 team championships setup, that would give each SL club £1m each per year, and could give the championship clubs close to £100k each if all the money was shared out.
I'd suggest ring fencing that money for stadium improvements, thus bringing up the faulty of what is in the championships now.
Even if the clubs sat on the money for 5 years, that would give them 500,000 or so towards stadium and facilities improvements.
I know that this is all a little hopeful but it is feasable.'"
So who are you dropping out Micheal ?

| Considering the state of the economy that is a fantastic deal for the sport, other sports (with the exception of The Premier League Football) have seen a cut in the amount they get.

| The salary cap should now rise (at least in line with inflation)
Hopefully we can get some free to air SL out of the deal somehow, and this deal would be far better than expected

| Awesome. We definitely need a terrestrial broadcaster for a SL highlights package and live cup/international games. Maybe ITV4, they do a good job with sport.

If that figure stays the same over the next 5 years, then this increase would be an increase of only £100k to each SL club.
It seems the RFL and the sport have been making some strong and positive decisions for them to have increased the TV deal in this climate, and shows the importance of the game to Sky despite the naysayers best efforts. In 5 years time, we will be in a much better negotiating position.
Well done RFL and IMG

| Dont forget this isnt the total income from broadcasters. This is merely the reported figure for Sky Superleague coverage.
When Internationals, the challenge cup and the Coop Championship coverage is added in then the RFL may be sitting on a decent amount of money.
For example if the Coop championship coverage gets a five year deal worth £10 million. That would represent a massive boost to these part time clubs income streams. The 11 clubs could then potentially each receive approximately £180k in tv money each year.

2 clubs from championships in to SL = 19. Of course, the maths is still bad because if Widnes, Leigh and Halifax were all in SL then one club would need to make way, making 20 Championship clubs (at current levels).
Of course, there are 21 now.
And I believe the RFL could keep the money from the other aspects of the TV deal to give themselves some working capital. It wont be loads, but how much money does a governing body REALLY need? Less biscuits at the disciplinary meeting would probably save a fortune.

Dont think anyone will pay for the championship rights
Sounds a good deal. The challenge cup and more importantly internationals need to go to free to air tv

| Works out at about an 8% increase on the last deal, about inflation for the last couple of years so not a bad deal i suppose.
