You can clearly see the proper goal post in one of the pics, the soccer goals were likely just being stored off to the side. The turf looks like FieldTurf to me, but it's hard to say for sure.

FFS. Yes, hardly anyone plays Union compared to other sports in the US, and I doubt the US will ever be anthing other than a minor irritant in their international game. But there are hundreds of clubs there, you cannot deny that surely? We would kill to have that sort of infrastructure and player base, and it forms a much better starting point to grow the game than our pipe dreams.

| Quote: mav "Wow, they have more clubs beginning with 'B' than there are in MLB and the NFL combined. Rugby union must be the powerful sport in the US.
Meanwhile, rational earthlings do not compare the number of clubs in a single league with every single club that play a sport no matter how small or at what level thinking it proves anything.
That is simply a bad copy and paste effort. Amateurish, for sure, but having seen the earlier version of the page when it was first linked on this thread they had those same paragraphs but in the correct order. That is the problem with making a site public before it has been developed, which is clearly the case as it seems to change every time someone mentions it.
So the only real world approach is to totally ignore different cultures and just do things they way the British way irrespective of how people relate differently to sports in other countries.
While American football is played at high school and college it is not a club sport, it does not have hundreds of amateur clubs playing for fun. It was around for decades before television brought it to the masses, from where it has grown to be the biggest sport. Maybe you should tell the NFL how stupid their approach is.
I also never knew that people who enjoy watching sport only do so through participation.
Michael.'"
Right, so the experience of a sport that was already played at thousands of schools and colleges across the counry professionalising itself as a TV product in the 20th century is directly comparable to setting up a RL competition now on top of no player base is it? FFS, I bet you don't even believe your own argument.

sorry mate
just reckon better to deflate the bubble now, than have it explode in our faces in 2010 when absolutely nothing happens and then all the optimists in this thread go back to the default manic depressive self-harm mode

If by my own argument you mean what you just wrote then no, but then that was not my argument but your straw man.

Yeah right. Strawman, know thyself
My position was that our game would be better served by focusing on building a network of people playing the game, creating a community of interest, and not trying to develop a professional league too soon (and especially not get sucked in my the hyperbole of certain people in the US RL sphere, who have previous on this). Also, that this was what the IRB were doing.
You asked me to challenge the NFL on their strategy, if this was what I thought, as (I assume) it somehow contradicted my position - ergo, that some sort of short-circuit was an option.
I've now pointed out that the NFL's strategy since the TV-driven growth was based on the sort of solid foundation I suggest we need to build.
Your post is there to read mate, no strawman required
