Quote: Nat (Rugby_Aholic) "The problem is, that logic applies to Wakefield and Quins. However the RFL will not act in the same way will they? This is what makes licensing so debatable, the RFL will always give themselves a get out of jail free card, when it comes to Quins, Catalans and Celtic.'"

I suggest you do a little research bbefore you post.
2nd, 2 other play offs finishes, 1 CC final, never last or in a relegation position and not the "worst supported team" in SL (see 2003 halifax)..............no to mention cockneys awarded England caps at all levels...and one even poached by St Helens. (Did I mention we didn't break the cap either)
Bitter Fax Fans will always have an excuse...always have someone to point the finger at....but they had their chance..they blew it and they have found their level...... c020.gif

To be fair that was after getting tonked week in, week out. When you've won your first five games and you still can't get over 3,000 then that's a genuine concern for the officials at Harlequins - well, it should be anyway. The Quins need to pick your marketing brains mate - lord knows you've offered it to them on a plate on many threads.

Not all Fax fans are bitter - many will pick holes in the RFL's methods but most of the savvy know the score and will accept the direction our club takes.

Quote: wakeytom "Well I cant wait to see how many imports Widnes are allowed to have to start with, just to make them competitive. With this in mind, when it is announced, we will see how them been promoted will be for the better for the game, especially since they have proved they cannot compete on the pitch, apart from winning the 4th Grade competition (1. SL, 2. Chal Cup, 3. Champ, 4. NR Cup)'"

as many as wakefield are allowed. simples. 4th grade or not, its one more than wakefield have managed in my lifetime.

Fair enough we did only win 1 Championship in 1998, but as far as I remember we did not have to win another after as we did not get relegated, when as it should still be we had P & R?

if thats supposed to be a dig at our relegation in 2005 its pretty weak. we were 'relegated' to make way for catalans, after finishing in the same league position your glorious club have at least 3 times in there 12 superleague years. 11th.

Quote: nathanwood7 "Why are people complaining now that promotion should be decided based upon on-field performance. The decision to make the decision based on wider factors (including on-field performance) was taken several years ago and any club which has spent the last 3 years investing solely in it's first team should only blame themselves.

Widnes have invested heavily in their youth systems and in their community programmes, in addition to having great facilities, good attendances and sound finances. They spent the last 3 years specifically addressing the areas of the bid that they failed on last time (i.e. financial stability and youth structure). As a result we now have a vibrant and strong Widnes club which is better for the whole game of rugby league. It was for this very reason that franchising was introduced and therefore it is clearly serving its purpose.

Clubs aspiring to super league have 2 choices - they can accept the franchising criteria and do their best to meet it as fully as possible, or they can continue to prioritise only certain sections of the criteria and then moan that these sections should be given more priority if rugby league is to be considered a "proper sport". I know which I'd prefer my club to do.

Also regarding the Northern Rail Cup - to those who say this is a mickey mouse competition that nobody cares about, you are clearly missing something. This competition forms a key part of the on-field criteria given that winners fulfill this criteria in full and therefore only stupid or ignorant people would consider it to be "mickey mouse" for any aspiring club.'"

But widnes have won fook all in the 3 years they spent so called getting ready, please tell me what wonderful amazing things they are doing outside of the club????? 3 years one rail cup win only in rl icon_rolleyes.gif

That would kind of be the turnover & attendances part.
Never mind the only full academy outside SL whose 16's & 18's managed to finish top of the pile... in SL!

P.s. in least two seasons (excluding Challenge cup) 6 trophies for Championship clubs to win (NRC / League leaders / Grand Final (league title).
Barrow - 2
Widnes - 1
Halifax - 1
Batley - 1
Featherstone - 1

Yet we get told haven't won anything but NO-ONE has excatly dominated this division!

Yes and one of the clubs who have one or two of the most vocal in this matter have one exactly nothing and should have been relegated one season if only for a technicality.

I only became involved in this thread and the one on the fax board once Quins RL were mentioned...I have no doubt that the majority of fax fans will take it on the chin, but it's the few idiots that I was having a pop at.

Interesting how we should've been relegated, finishing 3rd bottom, yet many Widnes fans talk of how they shouldn't have been relegated from 2nd bottom in 2005, and how they were shafted to accomodate the French...

Blackpool in the premiership are the perfect example why there should be promotion and relegation in any sport they earned there place there by winning the final at wembley. They have a the smallest wage budget in that league and the smallest stadium. But they earned there place there cos of what they did on the field, not some stupid criteria off the field and with just a few games to go there in a really exciting relegation battle in which anyone of 9 clubs could end up been relegated
