OK.....I deny:
I am a Union Troll: I freely admit to having played the game and still watching Ireland in internationals. I will also watch the S15 final this weekend, but I am not a troll.
Yes, I point out the failings of RL as I see them......I am a realist. If I were to join a Union forum, I would point out their many failings.....but I am not, I am on a RL Board. You Aussies have a real issue with being told the truth.........you don't like it when your warts'n'all are shown up.
As I have said, people on these boards who have met me and know me are aware of the work that I have done for London RL over the years.....I even cycled from London to Leeds for XIII Heroes in 2004 for an injured London RL player, I have leafleted for both my home club and other events and have met with the RFL to discuss the problesm in London........but hey...keep the name calling going. It makes you look even more stupid.
The only other "denying" that could be done is the reports from the international press regarding the crimes being committed in PNG. Are you saying you would deny these? The Nazis used to do that sort of thing.......
As usual, Aussie/NRL numpty gets shown up and calls another poster names.....but adds nothing to the debate.

| Quote: ECT "What a feck wit. Even when legitimate and obvious examples from other sports like soccer hooliganism is raised this union troll ignores it completely. Just like every other fact that totally nullifies any protest against a PNG team. The bid accounts for any and every issue raised by the biggots who don't wnat to give PNG people a team and yet they still go out of their way to slander the people of that country with statements like "third world" which isn't even an accepted term anymore and hasn't been for a long time. This pillock tries to suggest he knows everything about southern hemisphere rugby league but doesn't even know what the eligibility rules for State of Origin are. That's what you get for being a blow-in unionite I guess.'"
he doesnt watch the nrl either lol so take his comments for pure trolling
the appetite for expansion will only increase in the nrl as more money comes into the game
right now we need money for our existing clubs and we will expanded to the "easier" places like perth, central coast and more queensland teams
but eventually a team in PNG and a 2nd NZ side will happen when the games finances are overflowing and the bidders satisfy the NRL of their vaibility
wouldnt surprise me to see us add 4 new teams in 2020 the way we are growing
indeed i can see a 22 team competition and a salary cap of around $10 million or so
with the top players on $3 million pa
TV ratings just destroy every other sport
we have no competetion now

| Bloody 'ell. Why can't people discuss this without calling each other names and getting all upset?
There is no right and wrong answer at this time, so no-one can claim superiority. And calling people names (and union troll?! WTF?) doesn't improve your argument. In fact, if anything, it makes you seem desperate and hinders it.

I am so Happy I am not a moderator......I wouldn't know whether move this threead to the NRL board, Move it to the Sin Bin or just lock it
Back on thread:
I do not pretend to know everything, but I do know enough to offer a reasoned debate.
In this instance, it is that I believe for a number of reasons, PNG should not be considered for an NRL team at any stage in the next 20 years.... minimum. These reasons include infastructure, crime and general lawlessness, poverty, illiteracy, lack of access to proper medical facilities and corruption in the Government to name but a few. I have no dobt that if these issues were addressed first, then PNG would provide a logical expansion area for the NRL and the game in General, but I do not accept the argument that putting an NRL team in PNG now would solve the issues with infastructure, crime and general lawlessness, poverty, illiteracy, lack of access to proper medical facilities and corruption in the Government to name but a few.

Well it is understandable that you wouldnt want an NRL team in PNG if someone had been selling it on the basis that it would solve infrastructure issues, crime, lawlessness, poverty, illiteracy, lack of access to proper medical facilities and corruption in Government, that clearly be silly.
However could it act as a rallying point of an RL mad nation? instill a bit of national pride in a fairly fractured nation? could it be used to help spread public health messages? and could PNG NRL players be used to spread positive messages about literacy? could it be used to provide positive role models for kids, helping them to avoid ever getting into criminal activity?
The answer to these questions are a clear and obvious yes.
On the practical side of things, is the running cost of an NRL team beyond a country with a GDP of just under $15Billion? obviously not
Is PNG any more lawless or corrupt than a country like Russia, a country perfectly capable of holding a national football competition of a comparable size to the NRL, of competining in a trans-national club competition many many many many times the size of the NRL, and hosting an international football tournament which is the biggest team sport competition in the entire world? No, it isnt.

This very argument was used by the OP in this very thread. Same OP who starts with the insults when anyone dares to question the validity of his claims.
Quote: SmokeyTA "However could it act as a rallying point of an RL mad nation? instill a bit of national pride in a fairly fractured nation? could it be used to help spread public health messages? and could PNG NRL players be used to spread positive messages about literacy? could it be used to provide positive role models for kids, helping them to avoid ever getting into criminal activity? Yes, it could. I never said it couldn't, but I still say that PNG and its Government should achieve the targets set it by the international groups that provide it with aid before anyone thinks about putting an NRL team in.
Quote: SmokeyTA "The answer to these questions are a clear and obvious yes. '"
In your opinion maybe.......and I don't disagree in principle, but you are moving away from facts and now dealing in fiction.
Quote: SmokeyTA "On the practical side of things, is the running cost of an NRL team beyond a country with a GDP of just under $15Billion? obviously not'"
Let's look at the GDP shall we. That's a serious wedge......I wonder where it's all going? The average income of the 6.5 million + citizens of PNG is under US$1,000 year........I wonder why there are no roads, decent hospitals, educational establishments for all....surely it is the responsibility of the Governement to supply these, but somehow, this GDP od 15 Billion is slipping through the net. Could it be that international investors ensure they make a fortune with the help of a few politicians.
Quote: SmokeyTA "Is PNG any more lawless or corrupt than a country like Russia, a country perfectly capable of holding a national football competition of a comparable size to the NRL, of competining in a trans-national club competition many many many many times the size of the NRL, and hosting an international football tournament which is the biggest team sport competition in the entire world? Nope...but we are talking about a nation that is violent as well as being third world when it comes to infastructure, healthcare, education, communications etc.....we are not talking about a country where those things are not an issue.
BTW....on the Russia front. I have a mate who freelances in Outside Broadcasting. He has been all over the world, covering major events.....and he says the most harrowing and frustrating job was the Champions League final between United and Chelsea. He did the Commonwealth games, which he described as brilliant and luxurious when compared to getting his rig to Moscow..........the security in Russia was the tightest he has ever witnessed and that includes 3 Olympic games and 2 winter olympics, an asian games and the IPL Cricket.
So as you asked, I wouldn't want an ESL team in Russia either
