It might get you more money, but it definitely doesn't look more professional.
And in England we can count, so we just think "hmmm he's 5 lines away from the try line so that must be halfway!"'" Try telling that too 250 million Americans that there pitch looks demented. It's a professional game so the grounds have to be up to scratch aswell .Can you imagine someone watching league for the first time and wondering why do they have lines,if they saw the numbers they might get the drift eh?

In which case that pitch on sat was less than 95m.
It wasn't, im pretty sure OT's playing surface is 100m

| The problem for me was that when it went to that side camera, you couldnt tell wereabouts they were. The eastmond try, when he gathered the ball i thought he was still 30/40 metres out!

Wiki sez, the playing surface at Old Trafford (for football, I imagine) is 105 x 68 m[2] [ior[/i 114.8 x 74.4 yd.
So, although the RL in-goal stradles what is normally the goal-line for footer, I'd suspect the pitch on Saturday was 100m, end-to-end.
And of course, if Wiki sez it's true...

You're suggesting we do away with the half-way line? Is that they way they do it in Manly?

It shows the markings on the pitch, does it not?
I think its pretty obvious to where the play is happening with or without the goal post being there. There are the 'markers' on each side of the pitch indicating which meter line it is. Also flags in the corners and on each 20m line sometimes give you a clue
