i suspect its because a few years ago we were denied our rightful relegation place because the teams winning the nfp didnt meet the criteria for promotion, then the whole merger saga, but i really think the fact that we have built our crowds up,we have become a competitive side, and those teams fans who were so used to thrashing us now know we are no longer the laughing stock,we, rightly so,we were regarded as, it still grates with people.
As for the victim mentality, what rubbish,as i said no giants fans have defended the poor crowd, but the hatred towards our club and the general bashing of huddersfield is pathetic.

Interesting that Giants are perceived to be disliked (not something I have found in the real world just via forums) but if they play Wigan or Leeds in the Final virtually every neutral in the stadium will want them to win.

Funny old game.

Actually, the vitriol from the likes of you is actually whats pathetic

Poor crowds for the cup are endemic - as they are for the playoffs
Do you have a constructive answer?'"

Vitriol? You'll have examples to back this up, I'm guessing.

Personally i think its because of the progresssion we have made ...........back in the late 90's/ early 00's we were a poor team, badly run club who had very little going for them - and the fans accepted that but carried on supporting them nonetheless, but the general Rugby League public took great delight in having a go at anything and everything about our club then, and there was plenty to pick from.

As we have progressed and slowly transformed our entire club some of the bitter ones simply wont accept or choose not to, that Huddersfield are not what they used to be and therefore will use the slightest little thing to keep the digs going - eg 1 bad crowd in a cup game with the same reasons other clubs used for acceptable reasons for a low crowd but those same reasons are not acceptable for Huddersfield.

Our crowds now are no worse than what Wigan, Saints, Wires were 10-12 years ago but what was obviously acceptable then as ok crowds aren't now.

ATEOTD some people will never ever praise our club whatever we do and will always look for a stick to poke us with, that's how its alays been, i've no problem with that but what annoys me is the way people make things up and exaggerate things to make us look bad to satisfy there desire to ridicule us.

Haters will hate and nothing will change that, were 2nd in the league looking for a 4th consecutive top 5 finish, were in the cup semis for the 4th time in 8 years looking for our 3rd final in 7 years - i'll take that !

I'm not "hating" Giants - I wish my team was as competetive as them!

It's very success that you state that makes Giants an attendance basket case - why won't the public of Huddersfield follow them???

And be clear, the thread is about the CC attendance (your league gates are vastly improved on the "old" days).

Listen, us, the fans that do go, have been asking ourselves that for years........we know the answers but its pointless listing them because people dont want the reasons, they just think that people will automatically come because of the team we now have, i wish it worked like that but it doesn't.

I think the main reason for the poor attendance was the footy play offs. What would worry me more if i was a Giants fan would be who is replacing Brown as head coach, promoting the assistant doesn't always work, ala Mcnamara at our club. If you get a poor coach or have a poor start your fans will come back to the Bulls in the droves. icon_biggrin.gif
P.s. I think I know the reason why some fans dislike you, they remember the couple of seasons ago when it seemed like you wanted to enter wrestlemania rather than play in super league. eusa_whistle.gif

That simply isnt true in the case of Wigan and Saints. Until recent times though Warrington have never been that well supported and Huddersfield are exceeding what Warrington did 12 years ago.

Huddersfield's attendances have risen dramatically though and they should be commended for how they have improved both on and off the field. When it comes to attendances I think they suffer from playing in such a big stadium, for the attendances they get, and their crowds always look fairly poor as a result. If they were getting 7,000-9,000 at say the Halliwell Jones they wouldnt get half as much criticism and would probably get more fans going with a better atmosphere etc. The JJB is a similar size and anything less than 13,000 seems empty to me and there is a severe lack of atmosphere.

The crowds have improved due to the number of kids that get in for next to nothing, we used to give most schools in the area free tickets in the hope the kids would then pester their parents to take them, paying full price. a046.gif
Good marketing, but damn annoying if you happen to sit near a group of kids.

Not far off :

2000 :
Wigan 9,466, lowest 6,697
Saints 8,830 lowest 6,694
Wire 6,872 lowest 4,572

2012
Huddersfield 8,352 lowest 6,928

....like i said what was acceptable for those clubs back then is somehow deemed poor nowadays.
Plus thats without a major trophy win which both Saints and Wigan had at that time !

The league, attendance-wise, has grown massively on average since 2000 though - comparing Hudds now to teams 12 years ago isn't quite the point.

Personally speaking, I can give a couple of reasons why Huddersfield seem to irritateenjoy going to the Galpharm? If, like the DW, it had a decent number in each week, maybe it would feel more worthwhile. But it's just too big for the club and, even if Huddersfield are a competetive team, a game vs Hudds there just doesn't feel like a big game, and watching a game from there on TV is positively tedious for some reason - it just gives the impression that if no one locally gives a crap, then why should I?

Quote: GIANT DAZ "Not far off

I dont know where you are getting your figures from but Wigan's average attendance in 2000 was 10,532.

Huddersfields for last season was 7,828, I dont really see how you can use an average after half a season with all the anomalies that occur as a result of that. If you compare this to 2000 Wigans back then was about 35% higher in 2000, Saints was about 15% higher than what Huddersfield today.

Since 2000 SL attendances have grown considerably and last year Wigans average was 18,398. Looking at this season Saints are averaging 14,877 (Cant use last year as they were at Widnes), and even the last season at Knowsely Road 2 years ago they were 11,190. Warrington last season had an average of 11,166, and have an even higher average this season, and have too had a huge rise since 2000 as have Hull. Huddersfield's may have grown since 2000 but you can easily argue that other clubs have had very similar rises. 7828 is deemed poor these days because from a crowds perspective it puts you in the bottom half of SL at a time when all the big clubs get 10,000+, you simply cant compare crowds from today to 12 years ago as a defence.
