| Quote Yep. It just depresses me slightly that there are such pillocks willing to support someone with such ridiculous and horrible views. You sort of think these kind of views have been slowly eradicated over the last few decades, but then a Tyson Fury or a Nigel Farage or a Nick Griffin pops up every now and again and bring the ted out of the woodwork.'"
The guy is the world heavyweight boxing champion. Its a sport person of the year award. Only modern sensitivities (and views like yours) could prevent a worthy contender like Fury from being nominated. If it is truly a sport personality award then Jesus we have given it to Murray who by his own words is a dull as a weekend in Worthing.
Murray is world no 2 unlike Fury, Hamilton, Mo, JIH, etc etc
I hope you enjoyed your sports equivalent of Question Time.
Ps did you not hear Fury apologise??

A national sport played by lots and watched by lots of women. Murray is good player by British standards as has been Kev. Kev spent 18 years getting battered though and coming through. From a pure sports perspective Kev by a mile.

To put it into a true sports perspective Sinfield would have had to be our stand out player in an England/GB team to win the rugby league world cup which we have not done for around 43 years now. Murray from an individual point of view has put 100% effort over the year to help his team win the Tennis World Cup something thats not been done for nearly 80 years.

Says a lot about the gin swilling establishment that runs the sport IMO. Tennis in this country is a joke...without Andy Murray we'd be in the bottom tier of Davis Cup tennis. Too many middle class daddies boys and girls with no real desire clogging up what little courts we have. With the amount of money swilling around in the game in this country we should have at least have 3 or 4 players from both genders in the top 30. Joke. Anyway enough of that £
RL did very well last night, well done to all that voted...a great night for the greatest games.

Not sure how you arrive at this criteria. The international arena does not make the sporting performance more worthy especially in this case where Murray when playing in the Davis Cup did not meet any of the other top players as they were not available for selection. True he played a vital role but that was against opponents way below his class. When he did play against the top players in the grand slams he failed to win. Murray was given the top last slot on the show and prime front row seat with plenty of camera exposure to enhance his chances so it was clear who they favoured.
The Team of the year award was given to a team dominated by one star man (Murray) so not a true team deserved win.
The only surprise was that the BBC didn't create an award for Andy's mum!

| Impossible to compare the respective achievements IMO. Murray and co won something which they or someone else will win again next year. Sinfield led his team to a treble that is not likely - although may be - repeated for some time.
I reckon that the Scots - a bit like RL fans in that many have a chip on the shoulder with regard to the English establishment - would have voted for one of their own regardless of who it was. Which was clearly also the case for KS, given the number of votes he polled.
All the vote tells us is that there are more Scots than there are RL fans. I find it hard to be too upset they voted how they did, given their probable motive was somewhat similar.

| My thoughts about Tyson Fury. Anyone who is at all familiar with boxing will know that fighters saying controversial things to get themselves talked about is as old as the sport itself. Hell even Ali wasn't above making the odd horrible comment. Especially when he was fighting Frazier.
Secondly the quote about homosexuality has been taken out of context somewhat. He doesn't "call homosexuals paedophiles" as I've heard people say. Besides, if those are his views, what gives anyone the right to punish him for them? Yes they are outdated and ridiculous, but he's just speaking his mind based on his beliefs. He's not going out spreading hatred, it was a slightly bizzare comment in a press conference. As for his sexist comment, in a nut shell he said Jess Ennis was hot and said women should be housewives. Again, a massively outdated view, but does this stuff really outrage people?
We often preach free speech in this country, but there is no such thing. He is what he is, those are his views, and he should be entitled to those views. Just the same as women should be entitled to exactly the same rights as men and gays and lesbians should be treat just the same as everyone else. You can disagree with him, debate with him, tell him he's a bigotted c**t, but I'm glad he was in the 12 and on the show, because banning him would go against everything the developed world is supposed to stand for.
Rant over.

Don't worry, they'll be drawing up a lucrative TV deal as we speak. They'll ease her in on BBC 2 with 'Judy Murray's Scottish Highlands' then will return full blown on BBC1 for 'Judy Murray goes monumentally mental in Malibu'.

They did a decent job of dishing out awards to the locals mind.
AP McCoy, Michael O'Neill, the Unsung Hero award...

The only thing missing was the presenters speaking Gaelic.

| So SPOTY was a big and important thing - until Kev didn't win, and now it's worthy of scorn and derision; and fixed?
RL fans elevated themselves for a brief moment in coming together to support Sinfield's nomination - then quickly reverted to type when he came second. Ah well - it was good while it lasted.

Have you just sensationalised 1 or 2 tongue in cheek comments on here, are you a tabloid journalist by any chance?
