if it helps introduce a Scottish RL side proffesionally it would be worth it, and the games today were decent with some good attacking play on show...

but at the same time i'm not sure that a Scottish RU/Football fan would have been that impressed had they seen such an empty murrayfield on TV

Actually, why has it been moved this year? Surely the new welsh SL side would have benifited greatly from the extra exposure of playing a high profile game at the country's top stadium?

Very little difference in capacity now that the rebuilding has finished at Twickers.

The Magic Weekend would be a much bigger success if it had better timing in the calendar, but then again the ideal time would be at the start of the season which would undoubtedly mean bad weather.

Hi matt

deffo not there - been decorating at home most of today- just saw a few highlights - was not surprised to hear the crowd was 29000 and you can bet your boots it will be announced as somewhere in the region of 31/32000 tomorrow ( that would include people who've attended both days) so the final figure claimed is not necesarily the number of "people" its tickets sold .

ive always opposed it no hiding that and will continue to do so - its not about fans having a good time or not - it just doesnt stand up to scrutiny in financial terms - clubs have to do the RFLS work for little or no reward and whether or not the cheerleaders for this event like it - fans vote with their pockets and theyre clearly not persuaded in enough numbers to suggest this is a success - as the old saying goes " you cant buck the market"- very apt

are you going to Batley on Monday?

Christ there are some fkin morons about, I wonder if any of you like RL or just got lost on the way to a soccer game and didnt realise.

Its a great format, its a great weekend away, anyone who knocks it hasnt been, and probably has never been to a game as a neutral ever either

And I would be willing to bet doesnt like internationals, especially if no one from their team is picked.

Depends on the context - an irish RU club game got 82,000 today yes 82,000!!!!!

I personally think the 30k is very good

I wonder if moving it to the 2nd bank holiday in May would have an impact

today SKY had the end of the football league season, almost a full round of premiership games, the Ricky Hatton fight, and a RU European Semi final to cover.

I'm sure they'd give the games much bigger build up in a quieter week, and they are the biggest media outlet RL has

30000 is a good crowd - but it's spread over three games and was probably never 30000 at any one time. That's numbers throught the gate all day. 30000 didn't watch Salford/Quins.

It's an extra game in the season that isn't needed. I'm not a flat capper but we shouldn't be taking a whole round of games anywhere - at all

Well i think it's great.

I'm in Edinburgh as we speak and I'm looking fwd to a feast of rugby tomorrow.

It's easy to sit at home and winge but give it a go before you knock it.

Been to Edinburgh castle and the Scotch Whisky Experience and all the locals I've met have known that Rugby league is in town.

If you don't like it, don't try and wreck it for those of us that do. (Leave that to James Graham).

4,000 for Quins v Salford I'd say judging by the TV angles.
16,000 for Wakey v Bulls
And then 29k for Wigan v Saints.

Good first day crowd I think.

First off I am for the weekend concept where ever it is held, what I dont understand is why all the negativity? I am gutted that I can not go as I am working. Why does the thought of 7 games for a pittance turn you all off? if you had to go to those games at the club grounds it would cost you over £125 plus travel let alone the time involved. Also every one keeps harping on about the resession well I am sorry if you cant aford to go that is financfial reality. This game of ours will not survive if we dont try & spread its no good having the best game if it stays in the two counties, SKY want to sell dishes & advertising accross the whole of the UK & as all sports the target audiance is middle income wage earners who can afford to finance full time professional teams. Union has no problem getting reasonable crowds to travel all over Europe to follow thier club then country & pay a dammed sight more than you do for league & yet they are still having trouble financing thier game. We had all better hope that the idea brings in more fans or we will loose out to games not a patch on League. It is just a sad fact that league has out grown its working class only roots like it or not it was a fact of going full time in 1995.

I dont know why any RL fan worth there salt would slate the Magic weekend fair enough if you dont like it but dont knock it for the people that do.

Quote: Rach "Just been watching the BBC 9Pm news

... amazingly the Munster /Leinster RU Game gets coverage

(excuse me if I'm wrong but neither are , as far as I'm aware, neither are in Great Britain but the republic )

but the Murryfield weekend gets sod all...

Somethings wrong somewhere ....................

.'"

I walked inot my golfclub this afternoon in Derbyshire, and the RU was playing, no one had a clue that RL was on until I changed it over. Expansion has been tried for donkey's years, it will not work, cultures are defined many many years ago.

The 'Magic' Weekend should be scrapped. It's just pointless. I can understand the idea if you are looking for expansion, but bloody Scotland? They haven't got a proper football league, Union is almost non-existant apart from the farce of their national side and there is no league at all.
