The RFL clearly have more money than even the good Doctor. First they take on a sponsor for the games's premier league with no funds coming their way in exchange. And now they are giving refunds on penalties. Wonder if they could lend me a tenner?

That said in this case justice has been done.

This is basically the RFL telling Koukash to sit down, shut up and stop trying to run the game to suit his own agendas.

Not sure what difference two competition points makes mind, they're not going to trouble the top 8 so the only thing it will affect is the prize money they get at the end of the season.

I'm not entirely sure btw what some Salford fans think everyone is jealous of them about. The proof of the pudding is in the spending, and there's not a lot of that going on at the minute. Lots of talk though, reminiscent of Pearman (?) at Wakefield and the Probiz bloke.

Right name. I think Trinity are still the only club fined for making an illegal approach to a player (£5K for Jason Robinson before he switched to union). Funnily enough Jonah Lomu and Lawrence Dallaglio never showed up either.

The opinion of a wide range of observers from fans, TV pundits on Boots N All and SL Backchat, the media and even Tony Smith is that Salford City Reds got off lightly with a £10,000 fine. The general opinion was that this decision was initially the wrong one and Salford should have not been awarded any points at all. The game was null and void – no one got the points and no one got fined. It was a mistake that had to be punished and this was the right way of doing it.
It was quite obvious that when the club appealed against this decision the RFL would back-track on its initial decision and go with the general feeling within the game. Basically Salford should have accepted the initial decision and thought themselves lucky to have got off lightly.
The decision to appeal was the wrong one and I wonder what made the club think it would win.
The RFL also have to be taken to task on why they got it wrong in the first place.

Jeez, you'd think [iinadvertently[/i fielding 14 players for a brief period is the worst crime ever committed in this game, and I mean [iever[/i. The only fitting punishment would be to put a ramp on the field at Barton, lie all the Salford staff below the high end, then have big Nigel on a BMX....

That would be a hell of a punishment!


I was bitter about it all, hands up, but I'll happily draw a line under it now, we don't deserve the points but neither did Salford. Good luck to Salford for the rest of the season & see you down the lane in a couple of months for no doubt another basket ball style game.

Since the regular season fixture in which the offence took place is irrelevant due to lack of P&R and the SL standing of the two clubs concerned, the penalty issued may also be deemed an irrelevance.
