| I thought they already scheduled in a Lions tour down under for 2014 (year after WC?).
The only time you could have a GB tour is the year after the WC (doesn't interfere with qualifying then).

| Is there any particular reason it is called the Ashes, or is it simply because it is us v Australia.

| Quote: Khlav Kalash "I don’t recall the RL equivalent of the ashes ever getting the same amount of media exposure as the Cricket version.
Perhaps it could be reinstated in the intervals between 4 nations tournaments but definitely not at the expense of it. I think developing the whole international scene is far more important then bringing back games between two nations where the game is predominantly played.'"
What you mean when tour games used to sell out Old Trafford, Elland Road and get huge crowds at Wembley instead of not selling the Galpharm out, Believe it or not there was RL before super league and whilst SL is a great product one massive loss is the neglect of the international game. There is NO reason why proper tours cant be reinstated!

| I would like to keep the tri/4-nations format so that more nations can pay witness to England beating Australia....

LF is spot on.
the Tri Nations was thought of by wayne bennett to save international RL after we beat GB by over 50 points

& a good idea it was. He seems to think that iternational League is worth saving which is a lot more than most of his country men do, but as I have posted before the disrespect shown by Australian clubs on the last propper tour just about killed the game off they put out weakened teams as the winfield cup was more important to them. The same attitude still prevails they would much sooner watch state of origin & have no interest or willingness to help promote the game. I am ariving at the sad conclusion that Australians are quiet happy to be world beaters at a sport that very few other people play & would be even happier if we in the northern hemisphere did not bother to play. There stars were afraid to come over incase they got bombed, there clubs complained that it was to much of a strain on there players & now they are complaining about not being able to wear there VB logo in France & have suggested vetoing the match there. With the vitriolic postings of league freak & dally messanger(ironic posting under the name of a true missionary of the game) who deride anything not Australian it makes me wonder what has happened to the jovial fair minded people who I always associated with Australia. They won't be happy untill they become as stupid & perocial as the Americans.
Having been side tracked my answer to the original post, The ashes are for cricket lets be big enough to have our own trophy like the Calcuta cup between England & Scotland in that other pastime & played for each time the side meet in whatever competition is being played at the time, we should have seperate trophys for each of the nations we play.

ENGLAND captain Jamie Peacock has called for rugby league's Ashes to be put on the line when his men take on Australia during this year's Four Nations tournament.
Excited by the hype surrounding the current cricket series, the Leeds star said over the weekend it would be a big bonus for league if its version was on the line at Wigan on October 31, a one off game to decide a title Australia has held for 36 years.
"The cricket Ashes this summer has been massive and really captured the imagination of everyone around the country,'' Peacock said. www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/ ... 5765392911

It would have been logical to hold a Kangaroo tour of the UK in 2011, to avoid competition with the Union RWC in NZ in Sept-Oct 2011.
Given the schedule as it is, and the fact the NRL clubs don't want a Kangaroo series the year before RLWC, a Lions tour to NZ is probably the best bet, playing the Warriors, NZ Maori and a 3 test series against the Kiwis.
Quote: roughyedspud "the next available time is in 2012...and it would have to be as england because wales & scotland would be qualifying for the 2013 RLWC in 2012..'"
Why won't Ireland be? The fact is that Wales, Scotland and Ireland should all be given automatic entry to an RLWC on their doorstep.
Quote: roughyedspud "we have a proper, well thought out international schedule right upto the next world cup'"
icon_eek.gif We have a planned out schedule up to RLWC 2013, with a 4N model based on the lacklustre 1999 3N.

| aussie RL fans are spoiled for choice.
with saturation coverage of the game why bother with something thats proven time and again to be dominated by us.
its really funny everybody making a big deal about 2 upset wins as the basis for international RL.
the day we have 3 top sides who are regularly competitive at international level, level alone 5 then international RL will go through the roof.
till then well just have to make as much as possible when somebody upsets australia.
whoopee doo
