| There might have been a lot of hot air come out of SA in the past but there is little doubt that RL is played there now. A number of touring teams have played there this year already (the Australian Universities team is there right now) so we know for a fact that the game is played there to some extent. The current website is not just a list of clubs but also has results, photos etc and is updated more regularly than in the past. And if you look on facebook there are even an SARL group. The only reason SA didn't play in the WC qualifiers was because they chose not to for financial reasons. They were grouped with the USA, West Indies and Japan and the games were scheduled for the east coast of the US. Both SA and the Windies chose not to go because they didn't have the cash, or believed what cahs they had was better sent elsewhere. The RLIF have even made a point of mentioning SA as a country with great potential and from that you can expect that they will get some financial support as a result of the WC profits.

| Oh geez, this ones a true believer.
Anyway people, as I said, no reason to lie. But we have done this South African thing to death and the fact is, the game doesn't exist over there until it needs to for some financial reason.

| Rugby League doesnt exist in South Africa. They dont have leagues, teams administrators or players.
When there is a bit of cash to be had, some union types put their hands up for a game....and thats it.
Rugby League does not exist in South Africa.

| When two teams of 13 players in South Africa play a game of football in which the ball is played between the legs and with six tackles then rugby league exists there. It's a bit like denying the holocaust or the moon landing or something. All the evidence proves it but some people just won't accept it simply because they don't want to.

| Am I the only one who doesnt care if the people playing RL only do so when money is available, or the people playing it are usually RU players. As long as its been played I couldnt care less if it was played by Death Row convicts and the Man of the Match got a 1k bonus and was let go

Look, they do not play Rugby League in South Africa. Rugby Union types will have a dabble when there is a bit of cash floating around, but outside of that, the game does not exist over there.'"
I'm sure i saw the Rhinos play Lancs at Leigh in October.

Union players playing League is better than no one playing league. If it wasnt for Union players playing league here in the UK then the current expansion of the game at grassroots level would have been severely hindered or may not have taken off at all.
While the chances of league taking off to some extent in SA may be very limited, at least if some people playing the game whether they are Union players or not, it gives the game some sort of chance at least
