| What it shows is that top coaches are brilliant man managers - both Rae and Cullen have great technical knowledge but failed as coaches.
You have to be able to get your players to not only believe in your plan but to give them the confidence/respect/belief to be able to carry it out.
Coaching is only part about technique

It's one thing being able to analyse and highlight problems, but it's another to come up with solutions and have the players implement them. That's probably the difference between a good analyst (Rae or Cullen, for example) and a top coach.

| Eddie certainly didn't like the fact that an Aussie guy described the SL as 2nd rate and that Gareth Ellis needed training on the basics .......... IMO a bit blinkered of Eddie dismissing the comments.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

Do you mean like when saints were using 4 player to tackle it was a good thing but later in the programme he was bagging another team for doing the same

I was just about to say the same. He gave Saints priase for getting 4 in the tackle, then he was calling i think Wakefield for doing the same.

Saw a min of it.. was the tackled player 'winning' or 'losing' the collision in both examples? It could be that the mighty S were tackling in groups and successfully putting the player on his back and slowing them down, while Wakefield were letting Leeds still get a speedy play the ball meaning they have fewer numbers in the line?
Not seen it but that's all I can guess. Or you are right and he's an idiot

Since you put it like that, you do have a point. We were winning the collisions a fair bit and Warrington had fewer men in their tackles and didn't manage to turtle us. Leeds have always had a good ruck and quick plays of the ball, its hard to slow them down.

Their analysis is barely scratching the surface of a coach's tactical knowledge, it just seems complicated because in general RL fans know next to nothing about the sport. It's scary how little an average RL fan knows compared to fans of most other sports. Hopefully the Boots N All analysis will go some way towards improving that.
