They're both unacceptable aren't they?
Quote Michael_Ward="Michael_Ward"Where does it? You're really stretching to make a point here. '"
The parts where you're arrogant and taking the mick are there. So I'd suggest my post isn't stretching a point anywhere near as much as yours does where you equate Smokey's views to those of people committing violence. Although mine wasn't serious, it was merely to make a point.
Quote Michael_Ward="Michael_Ward"Where did I generalise? I compared Smokey's opinions to those of the drunken & violent moronic Leeds fans that I ran in to returning to the coach. I made no comments about the large majority of Leeds fans.'"
But when you say "some Leeds fans" in the context that you have most people would take that to mean at least a significant minority of Leeds fans rather than the specific few that you ran into, otherwise you would continue to refer to them as you had previously. So you're taking the apparent views (though I'm not sure how you worked out their views are as you described) of a handful of people and assuming plenty more Leeds fans are like that. Then, just because you disagree with Smokey, you equated his views to those few who attacked you.
I've been attacked myself before at an RL game, it was away at Saints a few years ago. Like yours it was entirely unprovoked. I didn't assume all, or any other Saints fans thought in the same way because of that, including any Saints fans I might disagree with on the internet. In the same way as I don't tar any other Leigh fans with the same brush for the idiot that shouted in my and my fathers faces.
Some people are idiots, doesn't matter what shirt they wear or where they're from.
