Lets have a car boot sale, Wigan could do with offloading Tautai, if either Sarg & Clubb wanted to go back we shouldn't stop them. Maybe Wigan could loan Marshall or Davies for the season. The problem with the market at the moment is Leeds want a new team so players will naturally gravitate towards them, or conversely it could open up the market, who knows , either way it could be exciting times for player transfers.

i wonder how our sir kevin sinfield is feeling today ?
if you are feeling a tad depressed, there is help out there you know.
don't bottle it up inside, as it is good to talk.

Good luck to the bronco's next season, hope they prove the doubters and lovers of toronto kittens wrong.

Is yo-yo-ing the problem it's perceived to be? Everyone bar none is lamenting current standards of the game. If a side has the necessary backing and ambition, promotion and survival in the top flight shouldn't be insurmountable. If they haven't then it's a case of one weak-ish club replacing another until such time as a credible long-term addition to the top flight materialises. Which tends to happen, often as not.

That would be the natural order, the strong survive etc, etc.
One of the major downsides to the old P/R and the upside to "franchising" is the opportunity for young players to prosper.
Back in the day, most (if not all) clubs under threat of relegation would sign journeyman pros who regularly swapped clubs in the lower half of the table of moved between promoted and relegated sides.
This didn't appear to happen anything like as much under "franchising" and we are likely to see a return of this "horse trading".
Mind you, Toronto re-started this trend many months ago icon_wink.gif

Seriously though, are we now going to see fewer youngsters getting their chance ?

Also, why didn't Toronto give any game time to their local players, especially when they were thrashing all of the sides in League 1 and comfortably beating the "easier" sides in The Championship.
This was definitely an opportunity missed on their part and hasn't helped them make too many friends among traditional RL fans.
A real shame and that boat may well have sailed

London have to be on the list of distinct possibilities as its tough for a newly promoted side.

Salford might do better next year with Hastings included now. However, with a small squad they might struggle if they get hit with the same level of injuries as Hull and ourselves last season.

We are not out if the woods yet. Consistancy is our problem. I'm just praying we don't have such a bad season next year with injuries (Heffernan, Carney, Quinlan, Lawler etc) and stupidity (Minns).

Leeds are still in a transitional period, but no doubt they'll suddenly do the treble next year, its what Leeds do.

I am also going to throw in Hull here. If they start next year like the ended this, the brown stuff is gonna hit the whirly thing.

Abd a really strange one - Wigan. Whilst not in any danger next year, Wane going signifies the start of an elongated transition period.

That's exactly what I was trying to say.
In respect of developing younger players, something that we "needed" to help try and catch up with the Aussies, P/R is a backward step.
Having said that, listening to Danny Ward and the great work done by London in developing their own players etc, they deserve their shot in SL.
It make a refreshing change to hear about the game, rather than box ticking on a spread sheet.
Maybe if RL concentrates more on the game rather than quick fixes and meaningless tag lines, it may draw a few more fans into the sport.
We also need to work with Sky and try to find out just how much the games being televised and spread over so many days of the week, actually impacts the true fans of the sport.
I realise that they are only interested in screen filler and advertising but, some of this is killing the game.

Let's be honest, there's a large contingent of "traditional RL fans" who will automatically hate any club which is further than twenty miles from the M62.

Very true.
As human beings, we are hard wired to be wary on newcomers or anybody who is different BUT, that shouldn't make us insular and I always thought it was the task of the governing body to see the "bigger picture", to prevent a closed shop or to prevent decisions that were detrimental to the sport.
I dont think this is the case in RL, a sport which as always prided itself in being inclusive and non discriminatory.

Still, let's be pleased that London are back in the big time and at least it's within range for the masses and not just those with a hefty amount of free cash. icon_biggrin.gif

Take your point and I'm not especially anti-franchise. But if we've gone one up, one down then we should stick with it for a sensible length of time. Your point re youngsters is valid but it could be addressed by tweaking transfer regulations rather than looking towards another systematic change.

Definitely a big point. I am sure Australia had the same out cry for a while about New Zealand Warriors becoming part of the NRL. Catalans have proved themselves to be a very club super league club and I am sure in time Toronto will find themselves in SL and will offer plenty to it should their investors remain and put the calibre of player on the pitch they have been looking to sign.

That said I am chuffed to bits for London, the hard work that must go in behind the scenes to keep the club going, from name changes to having to move a few times, to still churn out the amount of young players they have and have contributed to this promotion is fantastic and shows the wider game in London is massively improved on what it was. This step back to SL could really make them especially with the youth structure they have in place

JESUS WEPT :WALL: HOW MANY TIMES????? £20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000. The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover. There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT::d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_76030.jpg
