Someone mentioned earlier in this thread about what Cas fans would say if a fan won Euro Millions and pumped loads of cash into a club. Well at least they would have an excuse for acting so uncouth. You would expect just a modicum of professionalism from a businessman. I can't remember Roman Ambramovich acting like a complete weapon.
I'd much rather see characters on the field or in coaching staff and have pros running the game and clubs. His money in the game is good, much less so the man himself.'"

so when people who couldn't give a damn about rugby league are watching the racing on Thursday and see a horse called Rangi Chase or Brian Noble and ask about the name of the horses and someone tells them they are named after two people involved in rugby league that's a bad thing www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... rtune.html
Smashing example. Well done.

Just a tad presumptuous. Not only do you not know when the horse was given the name,or why,the likelihood of anyone else knowing about a horse racing at a course down south not frequented by rugby league followers,or rugby league media,is hardly an unveiling of a player signing.( No one would have known about it prior to a Salford fan posting on the Salford forum.)
As you appear to be an expert in psychoanalysis how do you explain the strange phenomena of mainly white men, with a propensity for violence and a bit of a drug dealing, naming their pit bull terriers and other canines,as Bruno and Tyson? Could it be they wanted to be signed up as the boxers agents ? Were they advertising their next fight ?
If you are convincing, how about your expertise on those people who name their babies after the complete team who win a professional sports competition ? rlHelpful Hintrl
As for horses names - Brigadier Gerard and rlProstate Awarenessrl] Any explanation ? Class or no class ?

The shy retiring billionaire who made his money in Oil in the Wild East? Pull the other one, it's got bells on.
Abramovich is smart enough to know when to keep his mouth shut. He will have pulled more dodgy scams that Koucash has had champagne lunches. He just doesn't go shouting about it from the rooftops.

No one would have know about it if it wasn't for a Salford fan posting on the Salford forum? Of course not. Not one other person would spot the horse in the national papers, the racing papers or just about any bookies website you care to mention. And considering it is running its first race this weekend it was clearly named recently. I don't think owners name their horses at birth.
Thanks for mentioning skin heads with trophy dogs and parents who think giving their kids stupid names is fun though. With that comparison I can see just what a classy chap this Doctor fellow is. Thanks.

Eh? Rip off billions through whatever nefarious means you see fit but keep quiet about it, and that's fine. Mouth off about signing a couple of rugby league players and you're a 'weapon'. Bit of a wrong 'un you mate.

Where did I say Roman was "fine"? Oh, I didn't.
Abramovich just doesn't act like a pillock.

If you knew the half of how Abramovich acted to get his fortune then you'd realise how stupid you sound.

| Honestly, you couldn't make this up!
Around about this time last year, Salford had Matty Smith bought out of his remaining contract by Wigan. Daniel Holdsworth was signed by Hull FC whilst still contracted to Salford (engineered by the man who brought him to the country). Moon was 'injured' for the last half a dozen games of the season, took Salford to a tribunal in an attempt to get out of his contract, and when a move to the NRL failed to materialise subsequently popped up at Headingley as it was all of 45 miles closer to Australia. With a year still to go on his contract.
Do we see a pattern emerging here? On none of these occasions did I see page after page after page of indignation from the rugby league family suggesting that the money men at Wigan, Hull or Leeds had acted in an illegal or even 'classless' manner. Three of Salford's best player (heck, three of the best players in the league) had all left the club whilst under contract. Life goes on...
Koukash has publicly made one ill-judged comment (even though we all know what he was getting at, and he had worked out what has been going on for years having been involved in the game for a matter of minutes). Since then he has made legitimate attempts to secure the services of Sam Tomkins and Adrian Morley. One was knocked back, one was accepted months later. No dramas, everybody moves on. He has seemingly made an official bid for Tim Smith which appears to have been gratefully accepted by their new Chairman, and another offer for another of their players has been rejected. Again, nothing to see here. I don't recall seeing him comment on much since and certainly not on any of the dozens of players we have been linked with. He has even refrained from naming the majority of the signings until this week at the request of the clubs involved. Very gracious, see?
On Thursday he gets the opportunity to announce a new club name, kit, logo. Season tickets will be on sale immediately afterwards. There may even be some merchandise for we hardcore fans to purchase. With the money he has ploughed into the club and the sport, I'd suggest he's got every right to have a good go at promoting his efforts. Eight months ago Salford didn't have a prayer. Forgive us if we are grateful to the man for the position we now find ourselves in and for the promising times ahead...
