Quote: The Devil's Advocate "I'm just thankful it wasn't Huddersfield, if only for the state of mind of some of their posters.

To hear some of them talk you'd have thought they'd been relegated & gone bust all in the same week.

God help them if they actually have to participate in the M.P.G. the Samaritans phone line would go into meltdown, along with the domestic violence helpline.'"

that would be durham giant.. who fell out of love with huddersfield giants along time ago!

Well here's another for you

Quote: meast "I have been a Huddersfield supporter for over 66 years but come Sunday I shall be watching my final game.I cannot in all honesty continue watching a team(I use the term team loosely)who in my opinion do not wish to play for the claret and gold. '"

And another.

Quote: meast "I can't see anything but three losses and derby's with Bradford, Halifax and Batley next season !!'"

And another.

Quote: meast "We will have no chance in the mpg as we have no heart, and the players just do not care I am afraid. Relegation looking more likely now and to be honest we deserve nothing else.'"

Fair enough if you'd just lost the M.P.G. but Jeez, Huddersfield had two normal rounds to play when these comments were made.

A lot of our 'fans' on here are very negative even when we are doing well, i wouldn't judge our fanbase on a few grumpy posters on here, most of us are glass half full types in real life icon_smile.gif

Interesting view of the MPG here from Ben Cockayne of Hull KR :-

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/ ... per-league?

I tend to agree with him.

I kind of agree with the sentiment, however if they performed better at their current jobs etc.

Meast - If they did perform better in their current jobs there would still be 2 other sets of players in the same predicament. It's the system he is complaining about.

Doubt he was complaining when Hull KR won the Championship grand final in 2006.

My team (Tigers) have seen relegation from SL twice and its is totally devastating. It takes a strong willed club with a ready made supporter base and a bit of a financial gamble to get back up. The game isn't big enough yet for this type of system.

Until we reach between 14 and 16 clubs with the financial clout which is level and above to Leigh we should freeze the competition to the existing 12 and add to it until we reach that level IMO.

And most years there are one or two players who are playing for their team in the last couple of games knowing that they will be released with no job lined up. Also I don't recall this concern being raised by the Hull KR players this time last year.

I don't think he's critisising the concept of promotion and relegation. He's critising a concept whereby 17 men have their, their team-mates and many more people's jobs on the line in one 80 minute televised event that has been created for 'entertainment'.

I didn't enjoy watching the match this year when my team wasn't in it. I won't enjoy watching it with my team in it. I won't be celebrating if we win either.

Every team knew the score going into the season. If he didn't want to play in the game he should have played better and helped his team avoid it.

If you don't do so well in your job, you risk losing it. Why should it be any different for the players? It is a great opportunity for these guys, if you play well and win all is well, if you put on a performance and lose, another team might look at picking you up. If you are not worth the money you are being paid, and get a contract offer of less money with the relegated team, then you only have yourself to blame.

However, this all goes back to the failure of the players to have a strong players union. They could have negotiated some form of parachute payment for their contracts (such as being guaranteed the value of their contract for 1 year after relegation). They could also fight against the rising number of games, and lack of growth in the salary cap. But hey, what do I know. Just complain about all these issues when they happen to you, rather than proactively going out and looking for solution before they happen to anyone!

Promotion and relegation has been a part of sport for decades.

Unfortunately we are a sport which may not have enough funding for clubs to stay full time if they get relegated, but it comes with the territory, if we (Hudds) had dropped I'd expect our better, higher paid players to find contracts elsewhere, the lower paid players would generally remain employed in the lower league.

I don't think that the world would end and everyone would be down at the job centre on Monday morning.

The implications however, could be bigger for Salford and their temperamental owner.

What about the non playing staff at these clubs. Must be horrible for them knowing that relegation could see them lose their jobs.
