| You have got to love PNG. It's just an awesome place.
I'm watching a documentary called 'Lost Land of the Volcano' about a team of scientists finding tons of new species in a volcanic crater in a remote part of Papua New Guinea. The lead scientist is talking to the leaders of a remote village. It's poor, it's destitute and it's children are dying of malaria as they have no money to pay for medical care or travel to a clinic. The village elders are sat there telling this tale of isolation and being cut off from the world and doctors in this remote village, yet a couple of them are sat in fully licensed current Sydney Roosters and Parramatta Eels tops.
GET THEM IN THE NRL NOW FFS!!!

| All you need to do is when a bloke comes at you with a spear make sure you have a pouch of tobacco for him. I guess you need to watch TRIBE with Bruce Parry when he goes to the remote parts of PNG where Canabilism is still practised to get that ref. [size(Yes, I do know that wasn't in Port Moresby)
[/size
Having said all that, I personally think it could eventually work in an idealistic way, if all the right things are put in place. Some people already have good vision, as pointed out by ECT, but I do have reservations about the place itself.
Then again, if a country as violent, dangerous, corrupt and as poor as South Africa can host a FIFA World Cup, then in a simplistic way why can't a sport start a team in a local small competition in a country that fits a similar description to SA.

| this thread really shouldve been locked after ECTs ost tbh that ended all argument
to all the naysers ill pose some questions :
1. would this be good for international RL?
2. will this help access more juniors for NRL teams
3. can a financially sustainable bid be achieved with PNG government backing
4. Will the NRL have the money to make it happen
thanks

Nope...it will have the same impact as Catalans being in ESL.......none.
Quote: dally messenger "

Nope.....what it will do is just underline the over reliance on Pacific talent in the NRL.
Quote: dally messenger "
3. can a financially sustainable bid be achieved with PNG government backing ?'"
Nope......because the PNG Government are about as reliable and trustworthy as any banana republic government.
Quote: dally messenger "
4. Will the NRL have the money to make it happen?'"
Quite possibly.....but it won't happen. WA, BII, CC Bears, NZII will all come before this pipe dream.

You're welcome.

Massively. It would do for PNGRL what the Warriors did for NZRL.

It is the only franchise that essentially will offer a whole new player pool for the NRL.

Clearly. Government, corporate and NRL funding is all assured.

Obviously. Not that PNG even need it.

NZRL was a basket case until Mr Doyle came along. The current situation that has the Kiwis as World Cup and 4 nations holders has little to do with the Warriors.

| Bull. The Warriors opened up more NZ players to the Australian first grade competition. Without that NZ would not have the player pool they do now. PNG needs the same boost in full time pro players playing at the top level and a PNG NRL team is the ONLY way to do that. Anyone who says having a Kumuls side made up entirely of full time NRL players wouldn't improve their competitiveness at international level is either lying or a moron. Even poms realise that having more players in the NRL will help their Test side.

Really? That's a pretty arrogant statement. You're saying that the only reason the Kiwis are world champs and 4 nations champs is because the NRL let the warriors play in their comp.
Quote: ECT "PNG needs the same boost in full time pro players playing at the top level and a PNG NRL team is the ONLY way to do that. '"
In your opinion......
Quote: ECT "Anyone who says having a Kumuls side made up entirely of full time NRL players wouldn't improve their competitiveness at international level is either lying or a moron.'"
ah...name calling. I was warned about you......I was told if I disagree with you you'd start acting like a 5yr old....
Quote: ECT " Even poms realise that having more players in the NRL will help their Test side.'"
Really.......is that more of the famous arrogant aussie culture.
PNG in the NRL is a pipe dream. No name calling, just realism.......it is a 3rd world country. It needs a lot of things and an NRL team is not one of them.

| Realism? If you think the Warriors entering the ARL wasn't the most significant factor in NZ's emergence as a major competitor to Australia you have no idea. And if you think enough PNG players are going to gain the necessary professional experience any other way than having their own NRL team you have even less of an idea. Reality seems to be something you don't understand at all. And if you think that pommy fans don't think having more players in the NRL will help the England side you don't read much on this board. Your knowledge of RL is severely limited. Not surprising from a union troll. And a plastic Kiwi too. You reckon you're not into name calling but you're happy to make biggoted generalisations about not one but two countries in the same post. And then finish with an arrogant statement of your own, as if you know what the people of PNG need.
