Quote: Marto "having started the thread and then backing off. I've now read it all and want to add several things.
[list1. Sugar Daddies BAD[/size
2. Fans Owned Clubs GOOD[/size
3. The RFL don't do much to help clubs and should do more. [iWe were told in our last conversations with them that we should speak to Hunslet and London Skolars about best practice for Marketing, this would be the hunslet who bleat at me for getting more press than them. [/i
4. The RFL also believed that Sugar Daddies are the way forward in funding clubs and the fans owned concept isn't the right one. this may have changed as we now have a Rugby League Trusts development officer in place, part funded by the RFL and the Co-operative. And a Sterling job she does too. [sizeHope my fivers in the post lass.[/size
5. The restrictions on Central funding for the Championship clubs is daft to say the least. These clubs need help, not dictating what staff they need.
6. Championship Clubs need to realise that the superleague dream is over. and work on developing the championship into a top class competition.
7. The RFL should be embarassed that it's president is the chairman of a club that hasn't paid it's taxes, again!
8. Whilst you might not agree with Starbugs views on championship clubs and how they should be run. I believe that he's had a go at it and put his money where his mouth is and has seen from the inside what goes on at clubs. Can you say that?[/list
If any of you want to have a go at running a club. Please please please get in touch with me, and i'll fix you up with a club near me. We don't want your money but your time will do.'"
Points/Questions in response to Marto's Points-
point 2 - How are Rochdale doing, I know they competed in the league and that, but from a business perspective
Point 6 - Some clubs must know that they won't see Super League, most have the ambitions but for some that must be just to appease the fans, I think there is a fair few clubs who are glad that as each season ends they know they'll still be there next season and have pride in what they do.
Point 7 - is SPOT ON, given how things have gone on there in the past how he got that post is beyond me, its also thought he could take over Nigel Wood's post in the future.
Point 8 - We all hear things and get told things by people who work for clubs or are on the board ect, but they still withhold certain information. when talking about things, I've been in a car with a clubs employee and director and specifically told anything I hear in the car stays in the car ect, and others have been in the same sort of situation, but until its been a full time commitment and people know the full facts why start presuming?
