Willie Mason played for Tonga.

Origin in England? Nah. It'd be like bringing over Premier League Darts to Tumbi Umbi. A few ex pats may go. A few interested darts fans may go.

In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. Can you get banned for flooding the messageboard with so much crap that doesn't make sense? Or just generally being irritating for apparently no reason?! I genuinely haven't read one post by fredie that has contributed to a topic on this board!

ive already bought my tickets to sydney.

ill try to get brisbane ones but they sell 53,000 in fifteen minutes so its tough

origin is simply brilliant.

watching test match football is a bit like charity after watching origin

with origin its been competitive for 28 years.

id love to see international footy succesful but when i go you always have your heart in your mouth that australia arent going to win by 50.

and then when they lose the odd game its like the 2nd coming of the messiah

Quote: dally messenger "origin isnt just another RL game.

and it would appeal to people who arent just RL fans.'"

Not in England it wouldn't. Non RL fans in this country will never have heard of origin, so if an origin game was to be held here they wouldn't have any idea that it was going to take place. Over here nobody will attend a game between two teams from the other side of the world in a sport that they are not interested in.

I doubt that it would sell out in Hull, Wigan, Huddersfield etc as there would be plenty of RL fans who wouldn't be interested in forking out for a ticket to watch two teams that don't have anything to do with them and have no affinity for, just as Australians wouldn't flock to ANZ stadium, Suncorp stadium etc to watch our biggest rivalries such as Hull v Hull KR, Leeds v Bradford or Wigan v Saints.

Quote: hindyscrack "I never said that London isnt an expansion market, however is a game of Australians (same could be said for some super league teams) going to help the London RL? There are teams here in Super League and the Championships, there is a growing number of people playing the game. An Australian exhibition match is not going to help the cause.

There are a few things that you need to consider

the ARL took an origin game to LA. with zero promotion it got around 10,000.

souths played leeds last year in jacksonville and because of russel crowe RL got lots of publicity including the jay leno show

a year on and the yanks are looking at a TV deal with NBC. surely they are connected.

if people think mal meninga and wally lewis wouldnt get much publicity, how about russel crowe going over there to do the media

i mean the gladiator advertising the ultimate gladiatorial contest, yeah, that would work

its just sour grapes from some of the neg mis sods in england icon_sad.gif . you could use origin . too pump up more fans . get war of the roses back . play 2 games at the same venue . like wembley . when the fans see the brutal warfare like SOO they will go crazy for it . all the players will want too play at wembley on this day . pump them up aswell . if its done right it could turn out too be 1 of the greatest rugby league days of the year icon_lol.gif

I'll repeat myself for the hard of thinking...

NFL and Aussie Rules have no games over here so fans of these sports rarely get a chance to see a professional game. One off games are bound to attract big crowds. Rugby League fans can watch games every week and showpiece games twice a year. This is why playing the Origin game over here would not sell out a big stadium. It would not raise the profile of the game as it would only be interesting to Rugby League fans. It's a dumb and pointless discussion.

Only because people had pre-bought tickets in the expectation that England would be in the final.

I know it's a hard concept for you Aussies to grasp but SoO just isn't big over here.

We know it's massive in Oz, just like the Baseball World Series is huge in the USA, but they hardly get a mention over here and then only in specialist sports press and media. You will not find any mention of SoO in a UK newspaper - not even the results of games.

An Origin game in England may attract 25-30k tops and even that would be dependent on location.
