| Rivalry appears to be based on geographic proximity.
Who ever said rugby league was parochial?

Though I'm sure that their arrogance will stop them from overly admitting it.

| Haven't all opposing fans formed a special dislike of Warrington since the move to HJ?

| Quote: pie.warrior "If you had asked do they see each other as the hardest opponent to beat then maybe most would have said yes. But Stains are the antichrist and always will be. IMO I think most pies would always support who ever were playing stains in any game. Whereas quite a few would want Wolves to beat any Yorkshire team and quite a few teams from this side of the pennines and definately would want them to beat Stains'"
When Saints played Leeds in the elimination playoff I wanted Saints to win. That's partly because they were the underdogs (I think many people root for the underdogs), and partly because someone had to stop Leeds winning another GF.

I feel genuinely sorry for you. mind you I love the way you write Wigan in capitals, but can't do the same with Saints and Warrington. Does it make you, as a Wigan fan, superior to us mere mortals?

Wasps are Hymenoptera (along with bees and ants), meaning 'joined wings' as they have a set of small hooks on the hind edge of the forewings that joins them to the hind wing.
Flies are Diptera, meaning two wings as they only have one pair of true wings. The hind wings having become vestigial bodies called haltiers that aid balance and turning in flight.
I would also say that Rochdale warrior's analogy works fairly well IMO.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

You've always given us a game, even when we were hoovering up pots and you were thrashing fodder for most other teams.

| Given the hysterical reaction to beating Warrington on Saturday, I think it's fair to say all Wigan fans now see Wire as their biggest rivals thesedays.
I didn't see nowhere near as much hysteria when Wigan beat St Helens at Old Trafford 3 years ago.

It's a good point..........but it's a point that no doubt the Wigan fans will deny until they are blue in the face.
However, the Warrington forum backs up your point perfectly.

That's also probably due to the manner in which the game was won

I highly doubt that. For a start it had been our first GF win in 12 years and until that point we were still in Saints shadow. Wire are our rivals, yes, and probably our biggest current threat, but there just isn't that same history of hatred that there is between Wigan and Saints nor the same imbalance of success that there was between us during much of the summer era. If anything, Wigan and Wire have risen together, whereas when we beat Saints we displaced them.

| Wigan v Saints is always massive even when one team is going through a blip. Rivalries like Wigan v Warrington, Saints v Leeds, Saints v Bradford etc are only massive games when both teams are at the top.

4486_1428087820.png Newsnight 13th May 2010: "With the role of Deputy Prime Minister a non-job. Has Nick Clegg gone from King Maker to tea maker????"
I kept the faith and I kept voting
Not for the iron fist but for the helping hand
For theirs is a land with a wall around it
And mine is a faith in my fellow man
Theirs is a land of hope and glory
Mine is the green field and the factory floor
Theirs are the skies all dark with bombers
And mine is the peace we knew
Between the wars:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_4486.png |

| I work in Warrington so over the years, my personal biggest rivals have shifted from Saints to Warrington. And over the 8 years I've been here I've seen a shift in the Saints fans too who invariably want us to beat Wire. It probably says more about Warrington's improving competitiveness than anything else.
