| Quote: Slugger McBatt "I think they are clamping down on this in Australia. I suppose the problem is that if the attacker is still pumping the legs, and we admire that, a defender is allowed to stop it. So does it mean that attackers will stop trying to drive forward, to either avoid getting crippled or to get a penalty? It will certainly mean earlier shouts of held, which penalises an off-loading forward like Solomona, and teams like Leeds built their games on off-loads a few years ago.
Has anything good for the game ever come out of Melbourne?'"
The answer is fairly simple, players have a duty of care to each other, the tackle Wigan are executing frequently results in injuries. If a player cant find a way of safely executing that tackle it is the tacklers problem, not the player being tackled, it is the tacklers problem.
We outlaw tackling around the knee of a prone player, if that results in a benefit to the attacking player, so what. It is a failure of defence to be only able to execute and complete a tackle in an unsafe manner.

As did mine - 7 years ago! 1 high, 1 low. Basic tackling technique.

No problem with traditional tackling around the legs but attacking the knees from the front or particularly the side is a sick tactic.

It wasn't from the front or side of the knees though, the legs were clasped together from behind. Same as last week with the Solomona tackle. All this talk of Wigan deliberately targeting knees to injure players is bull. You see tackles like this in every game.

| Coley misses the initial tackle and then Moa continues to drive forward with two defenders on him. Coley in a second effort to make up for his missed tackle throws himself at Moa from behind, both arms around his legs and the contact is above the knee, sliding down to grip the legs together. It might not have been the prettiest attempt but it was a legal tackle. Get over it.

| I'd be more concerned with Lima's chickenwing in the first half. He may get a band for that.
As for the tackling around the leg...a lot of fans [and pundits] have been begging for this to happen for some time. Two legitimate tackles that, unfortunatley, led to injury. Now we're back on this whole 'Wigan go in the tackle to injure players' Which is pure tosh. Wigan employ the same tackling techniques as the likes of Huddersfield, but simply because it's Wigan, everybody loses their mind about it.

If that makes you feel better, stick with it.
Nobody really cares that its Wigan, its the fact a tactic is repeatedly getting players injured which is the issue.

Fatigued players will drop the ball more than fit players.
Hull didn't deserve to win. They were crap in attack (again), and the reason why I wanted to stuff us rather than beat us close (if we were going to lose) was to highlight this fact to our new chairman who would hopefully finally put us all out of our 4 year misery!

Any more? I was expecting hoards and hoards of crippled players at the hands of Wigan's tackling techniques. 3 out of what? Over 300 players? Good god, there's going to be no player's left if Wigan carry on like this. 3 a season! Dear god almighty.

Fair enough, we have only seen one broken jaw this season and that came from a legal tackle, we can probably allow deliberate high tackles again cant we?
I mean if Wigan's deliberate tactic has only injured three players this year and thats fine, and we have only one injury from a high tackle there cant be much wrong with it can there.
Rob Burrow got a ban for a chicken wing against Wigan and nobody got injured, nobody, I was expecting Burrow to have killed at least more people than a nuclear weapon but his dangerous action injured nobody, out of 65million people in the country! Dear God Almighty

The fact is High tackles are illegal, tackling around the legs isn't, and even kids when they first learnt he game are taught to tackle around the legs. I certainly was when I first started playing the game. So why if and when Wigan do it, does it become some awful tactic that is done to deliberatley injure players? I really don't udnerstand. A couple of players have been injured, but then, Chris Tuson suffered a knee injury against Wakefield the other week, are Wigan fans trying to get Wakefield lynched for their deliberate attack of Chris Tusons knees? I saw the tackle and it was a tackle around the legs, but hey, that's Rugby, players tend to get injured. Why are Wigan being scapegoated for this? Is it because it's Wigan?
The fact the player's get injured is an unfortunate by product of playing a contact sport. Wigan do NOT go out to injure opponents, despite what many on here would have us believe. I don't like when player's get injured from any team, nor would any fan, but they are a simple fact of the sport we play. I haven't had the time to go through all the matches this year, but I bet the ratio of tackles round the legs to players being injured by Wigan is around about average, could possibly be a bit higher because we do have two going up top and one around the legs to control the ruck.
