Quote: snowie "at this rate the game won't last another 50 years, why do the wigan fans keep converting this into a driving penalty baffles me
They (pie fans) are likening it to a driving penalty so they can have a clean slate from any previous ie everything "forgotten" after 3 years.
As I said in a previous post, the cap is a MAXIMUM figure (plus marque signings) and there is NO excuse, especially non declaration of agents fees.
They tried to get away with it, got caught, were served with a penalty and then it appears that their new BFF "rubbished" the penalty and therefore they duly appealed and got off pretty much scott free.

Given the circumstances, I wouldn't rule that out icon_smile.gif

If having new personnel in place wipes the slate clean, everyone should flout the rules and then move sideways if/when they look like getting caught or, as it's "Teflon" Wigan (again) dont bother dishing out any penalties as they never stick. a026.gif

Wigan have broken the rules (and got found out), Warrington seem to have a more creative way of avoiding the cap.

Well apart from what your saying isn't strictly true I would say that Wigan fans (Myself included) are likening it to Driving penalty as that is similar to what other posters have used as examples to have a go at Wigan for previous offences just like a driving penalty so that's why we've used it back.
i.e. they've said
If it's a first offence "X"
2nd offence "X" times 2
3rd offence "X" times 3

Now I don't necessarily have an issue with that
I also don't have an issue and think it's incredulous that there aren't hard and fast rules relating the % a team is over the cap - But it appears there aren't?

My personal view however is that you can't multiply the offence for a year based on something that may have happened Many Years ago (Hence my 50 years ago comment) - I personally would have a scale of multiplication
i.e. Repeat offence in 3 years "X" times 4
Repeat offence in 5 years "X" times 3
Repeat offence in 10 years "X" times 2
10 years over say slate clean?

But I would also have a sliding scale of punishment and whatever the figures are I know would be debatable but surely 0.8% isn't worthy of a Penalty deduction

Fine a club for up to a 1% or 2% Misdemeanour (leave that up to whoever to agree but 2% would currently be up to around 40k) - But make that fine Double/Treble what the discretion is to disincentive the overspending.
Repeat offence as per above Go to the same fine plus a Points deduction increasing with every indiscretion in the 10 year period.

Seen suggestions about points deductions based on how much £Cash over the cap and no issue with what was suggested but the OP of that suggestion just conveniently puts it at 10k and under as a fine which is less than 1/2 % indiscretion - Conveniently slightly under the 14k cock up Wigan made - Leaving them in the 2pt bracket
if the cap alters etc. then fining on £ basis would need to constantly change that figure - Just make it a %
And whether that is 0.4% or 1% I don't particularly care as there is no current rule but 2pts for 1/2 % seems a bit much to me.

Saints went over the cap but not sure by how much 2002/3 ???
Believe they got fined 2 points
Now if a similar thing happened and they went over by 10/15k I wouldn't be pointing out that something 16/17 years ago should have such a big influence on what happened today

if 10/15k is a fine today - Then it's a fine
if it's 2 points then it's 2 points - But surely don't double or treble it because a team may have had 2 other breaches that could be 20/30/40 years ago

PS
Didn't Wakefield appeal there 4pt penalty 17/18 years ago and got it reduced to 2points which enabled them to avoid relegation on points difference?
Why did they appeal if a deduction then meant 4pts - Why not just take 4 points?
If Wakefield transgressed in the future No good saying it was under a different regime - That argument apparently shouldn't work for Wigan so why anybody else?
No good saying it was 18 years ago - That mistake should hang around your necks Forever?

I still find it amazing that from sets of fans that spend so much time telling everyone we should get more recognition from national media, want the game to grow, want the game to expand and be seen in a positive light
We then spend so much time limiting how much we can grow, criticise and hold back clubs that do try to grow and expand (Leeds/Saints/Wolfs amongst a few others) cry foul for the tiniest indiscretions and portray it as though WWIII has just started and continually run other clubs and the game down.

I believe the term used earlier was "Myopic Wigan Fans".
I would debate that isn't the correct term as I believe that means short sighted, uncreative etc. however my concern would be how many of the games Fans are "Myopic" when it comes to the game
We should be encouraging the Simon Moran's of this world to invest in our game, we should be encouraging them to Push the boundaries, take risks etc. and I understand some kind of protection against themselves may be needed but currently all I see is 99% of the fans of All teams crying foul on various fronts and running the game, it's players and it's clubs down.

As a Wigan fan I have to read how 90% of the Wigan team is rubbish - By it's own fans!
Get rid of him, get rid of him, get rid of him, He's too small, he's no good, go buy "X" player from Australia or NZ followed by get rid of him he's a waste of space
All after 10 years of IMO Great success with only small Blips

George Williams is absolutely slated
Gildart is getting it
2 young Wigan lads who are internationals at 22 years of age and multiple GF winning & WCC winning players

I see other fans of other clubs doing the same to their players, and I know it's a forum, but some of the stuff is incredulous in it's dismissive nature of rubbishing players and the game
I see fans of opposing clubs petty points scoring with each other over the tiniest things rather than Promote the game.

It makes me despair at times - Thank god I don't do Facebook or Twitter as I believe it's far worse

Looking forward to a Great game tonight Wire/Cas - I bet 90% of social media or posts on forums after the game will be negative and critical.

The game and it's fans will get what it deserves with it's attitude to itself.

Yeah but that wasn’t Wigan so doesn’t count!
They also put in a second appeal to try and get the 2pts dropped icon_lol.gif
AND ironically blamed the previous regime for the breach icon_biggrin.gif

I'm loving that the "new" defence for Wigan's wrong doing is because Wakefield won their appeal 19 years ago, so " it's only right that we get our 2 points back".

Here''s an article which covers Trinity's situation in 2001:

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2001/ ... eldtrinity

So, they were deducted 4 points for spending 74% of their income on salaries. However, they actually spent 58% (against the permitted 50%), income that was estimated before the season began so, not quite like the live cap that is in operation today.
It's always good to get your facts right c020.gif

I love how Wigan, having been beaten by London are now lowering themselves to the Wakefield situation in 2001 though.
Wow, your crown has slipped a long, long way in just a few short months icon_surprised.gifops:

and openly talked about in tonight's and they even stated it opens up a precedence to be breached again

a line has been crossed and clearly others still don't see the injustice so no wonder you get fans bitching when the playing field isn't level, it causes bitterness in the super league to add to the bitterness in the championship no wonder the game is diminishing

That's correct, although for those spending under the maximum £1.65 million ?? this was done by calculating projected spend and basing expenditure on this budget. Again IIRC, it was akin to incorrectly budgeting average attendance by 465 per home game.
So, rightly punished and also, deduction correctly reduced on appeal.

And for the benefit of your "friend" with his "war and peace" post (it was rather long). Trinity haven't bust the cap since and with how the calculation currently works are probably not in a position to do so.

Mind you, it was in 2001.

We'll be going back to pre SL days soon and may have to mention Uncle Mo and the sale of Central Park

JESUS WEPT :WALL: HOW MANY TIMES????? £20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000. The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover. There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT::d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_76030.jpg

Is this even serious? You do realise the principle that you can't be held accountable for someone else's wrongdoings is a basic tenet of any justice system, don't you? Or would you just like to make an exception in Wigan's case 'cos it's not fair and I hate you!" icon_rolleyes.gif

Unless it’s a different/new club in which case they should have restarted in League 1.

Go easy on them Snowie, things haven't been the same over there since Mr Wane and half of the team left at the end of last season.
Most of them seem to be playing for Catalan now, whilst others, despite changing club, seem to keep getting banned.

It's a good family club though.
