| Quote ThePrinter="ThePrinter"And if Cas weren’t spending the full cap they wouldn’t get dispensation, most clubs leave a gap in their caps to deal with such a scenario. So what’s happening is Cas are being let off with poor cap management, that’s why it’s a poor rule. That’s why is not comparable to other dispensations that Cas fans want to try throw around to make this sound fine.'"
How do you know Cas have spent the full cap. They could be £70k under but have asked only for dispensation of a further say £60k to bring in a replacement on a similar salary to Gale because decent halves are generally higher paid. Doesn’t have to be Gale’s full salary.
In short, you are guessing and making up stuff but in reality you have no evidence to make any of these claims.

| PS, it was explained in League Express as I have explained it.
In short, If the player is out for the full season and it’s supported with medical evidence he doesn’t count on the cap. If he recovers sooner than expected and the club wants to play the player, they have to reduce their cap by the appropriate amount to be able to put his salary back on the cap.

| Be interesting if cas decide to spend their pocket money on, say, 3 players for the duration of the play offs having agreed the wardle swap in the meantime.
Go down well, I reckon.

Yes and has been mentioned, people know the rule and aren’t denying it exists. They’re questioning whether it’s a good rule that should actually exist.

Exactly one of the examples why it’s a poor rule. Likelihood is they won’t sign a HB that cost the same salary as Gale so could easily end up using it on more than 1 player.

God, I hope we do sign 3 players with our pocket money - just to see the reaction on here would be worth it alone.

I hear Widdop is flying to the rescue tomorrow.
One year deal at Cas followed by a two year deal with Warrington (who can’t fit him under the cap in 2019, even as a marquee player).
Cas have also been given dispensation from the non-fed player quota for Widdop, who is non-fed trained despite being English. The RFL are also paying part of his salary.

You are perpetuating this myth that Cas have been given Gale’s whole salary and or accusing the club of bad salary cap management. You don’t know if they have or haven’t left space, and you don’t know the amount of dispensation they have asked for. Without any evidence it is guesswork and I was challenging YOUR views. I didn’t present anything I said as fact, more that you can’t comment or criticise Cas until you know the exact situation. Even then other clubs have used it before, others will use it after. It’s in the rules, everyone can do it, and we aren’t gaining any benefit from doing it.

Fair enough.
By not having it you’re penalising clubs in a sport where injuries can occur at any point through any fault of their own. It’s an immensely physical sport and I think we need a degree of flexibility. If you lost 4 players for the season in pre-season, a club could be down £400k on their cap space versus others and only be spending £1.6m on players who can actually contribute versus a club like Warrington spending £2.5m. It’s an uneven playing field and as someone else pointed that already exists with marquee salaries.
As mentioned Gale is nothing more than an off-field employee. We can’t spend more than the basic cap on players who can play this year and we are getting no benefit as Gale can’t play in 2019. We still can only spend the same amount as everyone else. If he does return we have to clear the appropriate space on our cap to be able to fit him back in and under the cap.
