Remember, these guys coming through now were all in Primary school when SL started........and the likes of LMS are just the tip of the iceberg.'"
I wouldnt claim to know the ins and outs of the Broncos/Quins academy structure through the years. I know Rugby league in London is growing and we are begining to see the fruits of that. But other clubs and other people are putting the effort in too. What the Quins have to do is sell themselves to the people of London. Its no good for London if they bring these players through and they just move up north To Whippet Ville for better money and prospects in the game.
After 30 or so years of Pro rugby in london we should not only have a successfull club, We should have multiple successful clubs.

Both were bizarre fixtures played away from usual home stadiums, neither should have ever been allowed to take place.
Lowest genuine home crowd AFAIK was 1,200 at Halifax in 2003, certainly that's the lowest since the early years of SL. Yet some idiot on this thread thinks they are 'more deserving' than Quins, based solely on the fact that they are a small Northern town.

I really do hope things take off for them down there - I can't see them not being awarded a new SL license and I do think a London team is great for the game so hopefully the fans down there can get behind them and get numbers into the stadium'"
I believe that it was either Crusaders v Quinsin 2010 (1,122) or a PSG game in their last year when there were about 400 fans....

Try walk to the tube, wait for the tube, get the tbe, get to Waterloo, navigate the station, wait for a train, get the train to Twickenham (making sure it's the fast train), walk to the stadium. It takes me an hour to get to the Stoop from Zone1 (Central) North London, and it takes a similar time in the car. I'd go more often than just to Leeds/Quins games if it took less of a chunk of of the day, or if the club meant something to the community I live in.
It's not what you could call local: You could get from Leeds to Salford in far less time.
People forget how big London is. No stadiums are convenient to everyone, but The Stoop is only convenient to those in Richmond/Twickenham and the suburbs around. In other words, the only area of London where RU, as opposed to football, is widely popular. So we're competing with two sports instead of one.
And yes, Broncostilidie, I am a lazy Northerner.

pathetic crowd
if ever a game between these 2 clubs got 8000 then youd know RL had finally broken into the hard markets.
but a pathetic crowd, cant defend it as much as id like too
the minimum crowd for SL clubs should be 5000, its not working in london re crowds
but on the junior side of things and kids playing RL it is so there is potential there

Fax aren't ready for SL. They lack a backer with serious money. Harlequins will be just fine so long as the backers keep shovelling money at them. ESL needs a London club. By all accounts BskyB demand their presence. So, let's not panic about poor crowds in London. For now, it's irrelevant. If it wasn't for London there would be no Sky-backed Super League.
That wasn't too difficult - thinking about the game before my club. I feel cleansed. God bless Super League.

Fellow lazy Northerner, admittedly one who lives ten mins walk from Waterloo. But even when I didn't I never thought of it as the back of beyond. I'd say a tube and train ride is pretty standard for getting anywhere in London that's not the middle of town. Quins have plenty of problems but I honestly don't think where they are is one of them. It's a great ground in many respects and the potential is there to make it a great showcase for Super League.

| It takes my blossom 4 hours to carry me from Stockport to Halifax and costs me thirty apples a journey. Try doing that every fortnight. Before they lifted the cobbles in 1998 it used to take me (or rather blossom"s dad) 6 hours.

| obvioulsy its the RFL's fault. ive been telling lewis for years now we need to have stargates at all RL grounds. thus eliminating the need for people to travel other than getting to and from there own teams stadium.
lewis however is adamant we only install one at headquarters and then only install others in Dublin, Toulouse, cardiff and Rome in anticipation of the introduction in 2018 of Roman Raiders and Dublin Diehards

This old chestnut again
Regardless of where the club play their games, if you live on the other side of town it will take you an hour +to get there......the point is, that if you're a fan of the club or just a fan of the game, then you make the effort to get to the match.
I think Twickenham station is served by 20 trains an hour.....why not read a paper on the way there?
I Know of one fan who spends over 3 hrs travelling to home games........
...bottom line is if you are a fan you will find a way to get there........the problem isn't the stadium, the location or the name....its the fact that nobody knows the club exists. There has been little or no marketing to date and the few efforts last year were terribly thought out........serious marketing means serious spend....something the club seem retisent to do.

This is from someone who thinks the RFL got £500k from the Welsh Tourist Board, then paid £500k to host MM, yet adds the two numbers up so say 'we made a million!'
If you are going to belittle Halifax based upon their contribution to the game versus that of Quins, then you really are more of a clueless deluded fool that I took you for.
Actually, I'd go one further and call you ignorant.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |
