Shenton would get butchered in attack and defence against Inglis whereas Eastmond imo might just cause him enough problems in defence to limit his effectivness in attack.
It's a long shot either way
The one that scored more than tries than other centre in sl?
At the end of the day we might as well just put 2nd rowers in the centres if we arent going to pass the ball outwide into space, the fact that couldnt do that against the taffs and the frogs is disgraceful at this level, all the half backs have been found lacking in the organisations skills so far, time for them to step it up a level and create something.

'when my life is over, the thing which will have given me greatest pride is that I was first to plunge into the sea, swimming freely underwater without any connection to the terrestrial world'
Yves Le Prieur, the real inventor of the aqualung: |
|
| Quote: Dunbar "I know, I was just responding to a comment that said Briscoe was a "million miles in front of Eastmond in full back experience"
While I agree Briscoe is a more experienced and renowned full back, I don't think Eastmond looks out of place there'"
He played a short time at FB against a team making up the numbers, we are now talking the Aussies and then the world champions. Totally different kettle of fish.

Would this be the same Shenton that put in 21 tackles against the French, more than any other back in the team, & missed only 1
No one pretends it's going to be easy against the likes of Inglis, but leaving out the one player who was head & shoulders above any other England back defensively against the most potent attack in the World is sheer lunacy.

The guy (NickyKiss) seems to have a problem with Shenton, most of his posts have mentioned how bad Shenton is, the problem Shenton has had in the last 2 games he has played for England is that he has not had the ball, and hasn't been able to show his true potential, give him a chance, he is one of the best young centres in SuperLeague after Senior who has retired from International, so what other options do we have.

| Shenton is a mile off being the centre Senior was/is.
He looked out of his depth against France and looked nervous with ball in hand.

This is true, but this is also the case for any other centre in england, so who else do you suggest?
Shenton is a young player who is playing in only his 2nd/3rd england game, he is going to be nervous on the 1 occasion he actually got the ball

Shenton needs to step up to a proper Super League side before he can pretend to be an international centre. Same with the other players like Myler who have only played at minnows.

Probably confused it was such a rare occasion, pass the ball into space and the combination of hall and shenton will score tries, when we do occasionally pass the ball out we do it when there defensive line is already on top of us.

I don't have a problem with Shenton at all and have posted on the Wigan forum that i thought he went pretty well against the French. This however is a huge step up and I wouldn't really back any English centre bar maybe Keith Senior(due to his sheer size) to stand a chance of limiting the damage Inglis could do to us.
The reason i'd pick Eastmond over Shenton is that i believe he'll cause far more problems going forward then Shenton will and that could just tire out a big bloke in Inglis enough to limit his impact(which i'd guess would still be huge). It could backfire bigtime but it's a gamble i'd take.
As for Shenton long term he'll be a good superleague centre(and already is one) but if he's to cut it at international level he may need to put abit of bulk on. When you look at all the best centres over the past few years like Inglis, Hodges, Senior, Gasnier, Cooper, Talau(for a short spell with the Kiwi's) etc they've all been big blokes and powerfull blokes and for Shenton to match those sort of guys it's something he may have to look at.
And as for his lack of ball so far thats something i totally agree with and it's been a problem for a while with England and from my point of view at Wigan. I'm more then used to watching a side where our right centre and winger never touch the ball other then to run it out from dummy half.

| The are certainly more solid backlines Smith could pick. It is strange that he seems to not care what happens.
When is the team announced?

Forgive me if i just havent looked hard enough but the only comment i can see on shenton from your board is 'i dont rate him tbh'.
