| I'd have preferred Bradford (yes, I'm aware of the issues and why that would have annoyed a lot of people) because I genuinely think Super League needs the biggest clubs it can get, and they are one. I've got nothing against Leigh though. Congratulations and good luck to them. When are next season's fixtures expected to be released?

Have you just noticed this? As per my post on the other thread Rugby league has had 120 years of trying to promote the game to 50 places outside the M62, none of which worked because the game has little to no interest in those places, so it rarely finds the investment of locals there especially from the business communities....
The current league table reads like a league table from 1899. But so what?
We are what we are, and what we are works. What we are is at least highly respected and televised nationally.
Why be depressed? Why not enjoy the game for what it is.........
Why not be proud of it?

Thank heavens for that scores of TRL posters want the town of Leigh sacked, and LSV pulled down.
They deserve their re-instatement after they lost their SL place to the stupid MPG system despite not coming bottom and getting some memorable wins against Saints and Wigan and some good crowds with a sizeable band of away fans.
With respect the league needs the biggest investors they can get and Derek Beaumont is one of them. No good having a club in a big city if there is nobody investing in the club. See Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield......

Huddersfield played Wakefield as long ago as the 1870's it must have taken something special for them to last for that long and still keep going strong, both fully professional clubs nowadays and have been around for what 130 years?
Yet some "supporters" (I use term lightly) constantly want to have them thrown out of Super league and replaced by clubs with no substance whatsoever. Clubs they think are "Expansion" merely on the criteria that they are a very "expanded" distance from the M62.
I'm thinking of starting a thread suggesting we replace Trinity and the Giants with Aberdeen and Exeter, I'm sure I will get support for that, certainly if it was on TRL.

| I've never understood the obsession with expansion. There is very little appetite for rugby league outside it's traditional towns. There never has been, and it's unlikely to change just because London (who have been in it many seasons previously), Toronto (who have just bombed out of it in spectacular fashion), Newcastle (who played one season in it before "merging" with a longstanding club), Toulouse (who are completely unproven), York (who have been around for a long time and never really established at the top of the game), or anyone else you can to name is suddenly awarded a place in Super League.
Leigh is a town with a long standing rugby league heritage. It's not a big town, but the people there do support Leigh RLFC and will go and watch them (if/when crowds are permitted). Why is that some sort of taint on the game?

The crowds in Toronto suggest otherwise regarding appetite.
It is what choosing Leigh represents attitude wise, not the club itself.

The tragedy is these idiots would take you seriously.
They are blinkered and cannot see the truth.
Great post by the way.

Great post. If the sport and game is that bad as some on here portray, why don't they just move on?
In my lifetime alone..
London
Fulham
Bridgend
Gateshead
Mansfield
Kent Invicta
Cardiff
...have all failed. There seems to be an opinion that the sport will fail and collapse without this "global brand" that a number of posters keep harping on about. We are 155 years in and I see zero evidence to suggest this is the case.
If the sport is that bad, move on and find something else and take your angst ridden self importance elsewhere.
Otherwise, just enjoy the sport for what it is.
