| Quote: SaleSlim "For perspective..... here's a post taken from the Salford fans site....
[i"Looking at our fixtures for October and scheduled for November is an absolute joke
October 3rd, 8th, 13th, 17th, 23rd, 26th, 30th (7 games in 27 days)
November 2nd, 6th, 8th, 12th (4 games in 10 days)
Total 11 games in 40 days with one of the smallest squads in Super League.
It's amazing we've managed to fulfil our fixtures so far. Super League and the RFL have a duty of care to the players and any punishment would show then up for what they are."[/i
I'd argue not one SL club could cope with that fixture list, let alone one with the smallest squad. Still, at least the mighty Wire have managed to avoid a 6th consecutive beating at the hands of little old Salford.
Thats a ridiculous burden on the club, I think Warrington given a freebie 2pts in comparison have had a 16 day break. The RFL should be ashamed of themselves.

| At least Salford haven’t done what Toronto did and threw in the towel.

Think Oliver Roberts played with broken ribs against Saints as well before he went off. While I've got some sympathy with the powers that be I'm not sure they've always covered themselves in glory.
ATEOTD player welfare must be #1 priority. I'm proud of our lads for their commitment to the cause during these crazy times and you won't hear 1 Salford fan criticising the club for putting the players wellbeing first. As for the numpty who posted about getting players in on loan from the Championship....

To be fair I don't think that Warrington have asked for a rest, or the points, it's our opponents that have recently called games and a 16 day break isn't always a blessing.
I'm not sure why Salford's fixture list is so congested over and above the 'burden' of a Challenge Cup Final, which in any event generally interrupts the regular season and the agreed rescheduling to try to ensure that fans might spectate

I'm having more of a go with the RFL rather than Wire, just using the comparative. Some clubs appear to be cannon fodder at the moment with no consideration for player welfare, it's a shambles.

I think Rico's feeling a bit tetchy based on what I've just read on the Wire forum.
Poor guy should enjoy the moment.... it's been a while since they've taken points off little old Salford.

Ha ha "tetchy" I don't think so 'mystic' Slim, although I'll readily admit that your recent run is a local 'problem' to me as a resident of the city and a genuine interest in the robust health of RL. I was hoping that you'd win the Challenge Cup and perhaps used it to kick on and gain some more support and interest. I took 'my' semi final beating fair and square in a local Holt's PH vault where I watched the game....I got over it.
My comments were in response to posts on the other site, most were one eyed, some were ridiculous. My aim was to open up a discussion on the gamble of running with a thin squad with no apparent back up and a comparative to what I understand to be Wakefield's approach. According that that forum it seems that it is everyone's fault but Salford's..Genuine question is it?

Apologies for the unintended 'misdirection', the other "forum" is Salford's alternative independent fans forum, not the Wakefield board on here

Right.'"
Some championship players are full time, and most train everyday anyway, even if only might be at a local gym (if possible) or at home.
Olly Ashall Bott & Tom Gilmore were signed up by Ottawa, but just 'keeping fit' till pre-season started, and they have done okay whilst playing for Salford.

Agreed, it's not ideal but I'd imagine the majority will have been keeping fit enough to do a job off the bench. It's not like the gyms are shut anymore.

I believe Ottawa are to be a full time club - in League 1.
I don't think any players of the 2 previously mentioned clubs are full time - nor have those clubs started training yet.
If Super League can now accommodate players who have 'trained ' in isolation, then assimilate into a team of players they have not played with before,it probably explains why some think the standard is dropping.

1230.gif “You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”:1230.gif |

| Ideally Super league clubs should have a reserve team and their own academy team, then they could play two games a week, and players would mostly only need to play once a week.
Unfortunately the state of the game in this country means a lot of teams don't do this.
It was inevitable this would happen, Salford shouldn't face punishment, but those in charge of the game should concentrate on producing more players at all levels of the game, and ensure clubs and community all work towards this goal.

It was only an alternative that was suggested, not something that should be implemented. A few clubs (like Salford) don't have an academy, and only have a small squad of players.
But they forfeited the game, and obviously you would prefer that to happen, rather than have 4 extremely unfit part time RL players (who all eat too many pies) on the subs bench.
