In fairness, it's arguably not the RFL's place to make comment. The Sun's stance has come about following a Super League event, not an RFL event.
Part of this is The Sun looking for an excuse. I doubt many people buy The Sun for it's RL content. I doubt many advertisers are in The Sun to reach RL supporters. Both of those are the opposite for its football coverage, which is why it still covers Liverpool and Everton.
As much as I feel sorry for Gary Carter, who is stuck in the middle of this, RL is just a cost that The Sun can do without.

| Quote: PopTart "This is such an opportunity for good publicity, especially in Liverpool.
If we go to places like Annfield to grow the sport then let's actually back the people of Liverpool. They feel strongly on this subject. It should be being talked about everywhere.'"
We shouldn’t back Liverpool in this at all. They were the ones who approached SL and made an offer to host Magic Weekend. If they wanted SL there then they should be prepared to allow SL to have control of who can and cannot report on it. If we went to them begging to have Magic there then fair enough but you don’t go after customers and then dictate to them how it will go and what they can do.
The difference in this case compared to The Sun still reporting on Liverpool is that Liverpool made their stance clear The Sun wasn’t allowed at Anfield, however for Magic Weekend, SL and The Sun were given assurances that Carter would be allowed in. If Liverpool were honest from the start then fine but to backtrack late on is poor. If Anfield want some to host other sports at its venue then be upfront about this issue from the start before any deal is made, but I suppose fear that it’ll put off potential ‘customers’ lead them not to do so.
Whatever some people’s opinion of The Sun it’s still a big national paper and we as a sport aren’t in a position to lose any coverage even if it was limited it’s still better than zero and for what gain....to appease some Liverpool football fans we’re going to shrink our already poor media coverage when we have several other venues that’s could’ve hosted Magic and done a much better job than Liverpool did.

As has already been said, the sun banning RL will generate 1000% more coverage than the occasional article.
They maybe a national newspaper But they are talking to a closed circle of people.
The sun is a dying animal, if it wants to die making wailing noises at RL, so be it.

It won’t be anywhere near “1000% more” and it’ll be for a day or two then forgotten about. Limited coverage isn’t great and makes RL look small time, zero coverage makes RL look non existent.

Right, because The Sun (which no one with any decency reads) writing the odd article about Super League makes RL look big time doesn’t it?

| NOBODY can blame Liverpool FC for banning all reporters from the Sun newspaper from entering their ground.
The utter mis-information peddled by that rag was a disgrace and if they (The Sun) no longer want to publish RL, so be it.
Even with the low esteem that RL is held in with the media world, it would be disappointing to think that ANY RL fan would buy such a pile of chip paper.
I know that RL needs all of the publicity that it can get but, I'm happy with Liverpool FC's principles on this one

Totally agree with this! I'd rather go without publicity than be associated with that rag in any capacity.

If they don’t want to allow Sun journalists into Anfield that’s fine....but like I said don’t go out looking to attract and bring other sports to Anfield (which they’re trying to do since the stadium upgrade) and tell them late in the day they can’t have certain part s of the media there. Either put that part of the deal out there right from the START before agreeing or don’t have it at all.
People can get on their moral high horses now but I don’t recall seeing RL fans protesting or petitioning AT ALL in the last 30 years either towards their own club or the RFL asking them to ban The Sun journalists from RL grounds or events. Don’t recall anybody complaining that Sun journalists were allowed into St James Park in previous years. Where was you support for Liverpool then or any of the previous 30 years before they wanted to host RL? So it’s not a subject RL fans truly feel strongly about at all, just in trend at the moment like so many moral high horse views are.
Just because some on here have a higher opinion of themselves and think of themselves as better than the people who do read The Sun isn’t a valid or good reason to not have it cover RL regardless of whether it’s limited. We should be trying to increase how much EVERY paper covers RL, not going backwards.

I'd be more impressed by Liverpool's principles had they imposed their ban sometime sooner than 2017.
