Salford struggled in the regular season with several injuries and by not having a quality halfback to play alongside Rob Lui. Littlejohn was a disappointing replacement for Dobson and then young Sharrocks on loan from Wigan was sadly just not ready for the step up to Superleague.
Personally I think coach Ian Watson has been gearing up for these qualifiers for weeks by not rushing players back and then signing quality like Hastings and Lussick who both represented Australian schoolboys. The signing of Jackson Hastings in particular seems to have energised the whole squad and they now look a lot more enthusiastic, organised and a completely different team in both attack and defence.
It's funny how last year we had very few injuries in the regular season and finished in our highest ever SL position (4th), only to fall off a cliff in the Super 8's when we picked up injuries. And this year it's the complete opposite way around.
