| I agree Offiah. Some of his tries took your breath away. I had the pleasure of being sat right in front of where he touched down for THAT try against Leeds in the 94 cup final.pure class

Indeed.you merely worded it wrong. Instead of producing a conveyor belt of talent you should have said they boasted an all star roster.not that they didn't produce their own stars i mean - betts, edwards, clarke, farrell and Cassidy would back that up but the domination really was built on buying up the marquee names.

| Offiah was easily the best winger of his era. I’ve not seen anyone with his pace and his ability to read the game and get himself in the right position to score. How many times did he just turn up on the opposite wing or on the shoulder of someone in midfield? Loads. When you add Olympic standard speed to that you have a special player. If he got the ball with daylight in front of him he scored 9 times out of 10 no matter where on the field or what distance.
Robinson was world class and had amazing footwork and pace of the mark. He could make a fool of the best defenders. But he wasn’t able to do the special things Offiah could.

| I always thought Robinson would make a decent full back.
His acceleration of the mark was crazy. Absolute rapid that first 10 yards.

| Two very different wingers though Robinson was a scrum half in his youth.
I’d have to say Offiah was better though they both offer different things. Robinson would probably be more suited to today’s game as I doubt Offiah would be too keen to cart the ball out of his own half. I remember John Monie saying that if the team ever felt they needed a penalty in their own quarter they would give the ball to Offiah and usually one defender would do something stupid enough to give a penalty away.

| Just like to add it also tells you how good Robinson was when it can be a fair debate between him and Offiah even though he gave up some of his prime years to the dark side at the age of just 26.to achieve what he did in Union too only adds to his greatness.

Pretty sure they had a call for that in is widnes days before Wigan. pretty sure Martin would have gone well in any era, pace beats everything. but with more money and sponsorship lottery funding he may have gone to track and field. he would be great at 200m but would have made a world class long or triple jumper as well. he beat Jonathan Edwards in a standing jump competition.

| As much as I hate to say it as a Widnes and Wigan star- Offiah was an incredible player and the most dangerous runner I’ve ever seen (been watching since the late 80s). Robinson was terrific but Offiah’s sheer pace made him virtually untouchable. Des Drummond was also terrific for us and Leigh around the same time and earlier.

| Offiah for me for his pure speed, I’ve seen both of them train when I use to do my track sessions and stamina work.
Everything Offiah did was 20, 50, 100 metre pyramid sessions, Robinson use to do a lot of gut wrenching hill sessions and speed footwork.
Offiah could do 100 metres and not lose any velocity, Robinson would slow down after 50 metres but his acceleration from a standing start was top drawer.

I remember watching him demolish us, and some old lad turned to his mate and said, "he's a bloody one trick pony that Offiah - all he does is score tries." Classic miserable old Wakey fan banter.'"
Not just Wakey fans. There used to be a bloke who stood near me who, whenever Big Les crashed over yet again, used to moan that Barrie McDermott could've scored just as many if he'd hidden out on the wing.
Back on topic, has to be Offiah. When I saw him run in ten - in one game - against us I was convinced I'd not see Leeds outdo Wigan in my lifetime. If ever there was a truly crushing defeat, that was it.

| Offiah, more consistent over a longer period at the highest level. Robinson had a good few years, but there's no way he'd be a winger if he came through now.

Stop you right there as your twisting things in a big way as usual.
By the time Offiah finally met Drummond the latter was well past his best. Still s cracking player but much slower than in his prime.
Personally I rate Offiah as better but in his prime Drummond would have kept up with him in every way.

Slightly off topic but relating to very fast wingers takes me back to 1953 and the great excitement around the first game that MacDonald Bailey played for Leigh. MacD B. was a UK Olympic bronze medalist sprinter and the fastest man in the UK for many years prior to seeking a career in rugby league.
Played under floodlights at Leigh, around 25,000 turned up to see him score a try in a win against Wigan. Match highlights were shown nationally on Pathe News.
Muscle tears occurring in the match led to his immediate retirement.

| Offiah for me, his scoring rate was phenomenal and he was a threat anywhere on the pitch. There was more to him than just speed, he had that ability to read the game and get himself in the right place in the first instance. Robinson certainly had the more rounded game and could do less glamorous work better but considering he was in a dominant team his try scoring isn't exceptional.
