| I see calling refs about there decisions is a matter of opinion. But being personal about about a ref isn't aceptable so simpleton I think you may find your the idiot or the one who hides behind his keyboard or who shouts on the terraces but in real life runs away at the first hint of trouble.

| If the match officials are having to tell the players how to play, then what chance is there?
It's ALWAYS the players who are the problem yet it's just like the emporours new clothes with far too many.
I wish the match officials kept quiet and only were heard when explaining the "correct " decision. It may take a while but being constantly penalised may force the players to read and Understand the rules and the coaches, and perhaps even some fans but that is a step too far perhaps

It's not ALWAYS the players. It would be if the rules were applied consistently in every game but that's not the case. That probably isn't even possible. The game is very fast and requires "interpretation", for want of a better word, but that interpretation can require discussion and explanation. Also, there is the obvious situation of where a player may be offside, if the ref tells him then this can enable a better situation for both the attacking team and the game as a whole, so it would seem reasonable in that situation for there to be communication.
As I said, some can be cut down but most is fairly necessary for an incredibly fast game to be played at that speed.

| The one good thing about the refs mic is that you get to hear which refs have the better communication/banter with the players. It shows you that Thaler is miles ahead of someone like Child in that department.

Yes, people should know better than to voice an opinion on here.
It just wouldn't be the same without a good old hollering of "MOOOOOVE" approx 300 times per game.

But that's an issue with the ref being mic'd up and Sky/BBC having the audio on all game rather than the game itself isn't it?

| I share the view that refs are doing too much coaching during a game - some seem to favour an ongoing dialogue about ruck-speed, on-side etc, rather than just penalising infringements; and the new one is shouting out the reason they *haven't* given a penalty, such as "trapped" or "you're diving forward," which I guess is an inevitable consequence of the new fashion for certain players to constantly appeal for penalties - they feel pressured to justify themselves.
The real issue however, is the volume their microphones are set to for the broadcast audio; it would be interesting to hear them talk to players after penalties and incidents, but since the massive posse of people involved in commentary always talk over them anyway, it would probably work best if Sky just reduced the volume.

| My only beef is when the referees get too over familiar with certain players
"Sam, don't get involved"
"Well done Sam"
"Thanks Sam"
all from the Saints Wigan game a couple of weeks ago.

| I hate referees using players nicknames. On Friday the referree was telling Tag (Scott Taylor) to get off the tackled player. Should be first names

After the Ganson incident, yelling "Sprogger" at Stuart Spruce, they were told to use first names.
