| Well considering Salford deliberately set out to break the cap, thus giving them an unfair advantage, I'd say 6 points and a £5k fine is getting off light. Yes, it means Salford miss out on a top 8 spot this year, but it doesn't present any real threat to their SL status. Given the way the NRL deals with salary cap cheats the Doctor ought to be bloody grateful that Salford will still be in SL next year

Which [iCounty[/i is that then ?
Yorkshire, Lancashire or Cumbria ?
*note, London is irrelevant & therefore does not count on the Salary Cap*

| I missed the start of tonight's Wire v Salford game, *currently Wire 40 Salford 8*, I heard the pundits mention that in an interview at the start of the programme Dr MarwanK would not state whether or not he would be at Salford next year & that he would speak about it with family at the end of the season.
If he chooses to leave Salford/RL then it could have devastating repercussions for the club's future & I hope for Salford's sake that he remains.
*now 40 - 14*

No, no, no. He needs to be persuaded to spend his money and run his club properly. He's the only RL club owner who could drastically change his clubs future if only he would put his ego and attitude to one side.
Stop the obsession with the salary cap.
Spend money on much neglected areas of the club, the club infrastructure.
Spend time/effort/money on securing a better deal for Salford at the stadium including turning it more into a home for Salford rather than just that place they games at.
And stop this pathetic victim mentality/spat re the RFL. They aren't out to get Salford. If Salford stop breaking the rules then the RFL will stop punishing them.
Even better, use his business connections/know-how etc to help the sport gain a bigger media, sponsorship and hospitality profile.
We desperately have to stop working as different organisations all pulling in different directions and start working together as one sport. Koukash is one of the few people in the sport who could, single-handedly, make a difference. If he, along with Lenagan, Moran, McManus, Davy & Caddick all worked together for the collective good of the sport, then everyone would benefit including their individual clubs.
A little bit of a rant, but we should be attempting to get Koukash to amend his ways, not kick him out of the sport.
However, if he does leave, it's entirely of his doing.

All very sensible aims - but he seems to be someone who is not able to rehabilitate himself; christ knows how he's had the success he's claimed to have had in other fields, given that every walk of life has norms, rules and regulations that have to be followed in order to succeed. Most successful people understand that, and find quiet, careful ways to flex, bend and adapt those rules and regulations to their own advantage - MarwanK seems intent on just breaking them, then bragging loudly about the fact that he's done so, then unseating the people who made them in the first place.
He's insufferable and an embarrassment to the sport - and for all his reported wealth, he appears to have done very little to improve Salford's lot; which is a shame.

I don't see how you have come to that conclusion but,of course, you have only ever posted similar about him every time you post.
There isn't any other owner in the sport who has taken on the enormous debts left by a previous regime.
The same individual has spent far more of his money on other things than he has on his alleged efforts to break the salary cap,if the reported figures are correct.
He has the willingness to mix with kings and paupers, and while he appears to dumb down on behalf of those in rugby league there is certainly not the same conduct,or response to him,in the Sport of Kings.
He has also made efforts to involve himself with other clubs which may have benefited rugby league sides Oldham and Swinton.
The improvements at Salford, not only in their standing in Super League, but their profile in this country and abroad, their infrastructure and how they have recovered from earlier failure is pretty remarkable.
Since he involved himself in the CEO role there do not appear to be any more county court cases. That would seem to be an improvement while other clubs in the country face winding-up orders - both in Yorkshire.

| Since you seem to be his unofficial biographer, you obviously have a much greater insight into his daily comings and goings; I, like the vast majority of people involved in RL, base my opinion on his public facing duties as a RL owner and Chairman - and in that regard, he makes a right pillock of himself and drags the sport down. How many other chairmen conduct a personal and foulmouthed feud with the RFL on social media? How many hold a press conference to declare open war on the RFL and launch a bid to bring it down? How many openly and blatantly cheat the salary cap and the operational rules; brag about doing it; then claim innocence, despite two failed opportunities to prove that innocence?
You may love him - but he's a berk who doesn't deserve you.

| He has a mixed personality and so has everyone else.
What is very important to realise is no Dr K, no Salford RLFC. I cannot see any successor anywhere. So we die.
As for a new start: there is no appetite, outside fans, for thinking we could restart in the lower divisions/leagues. It's a football area. Salford fans are not wealthy. There are other issues. For instance, start with the query of where could we play as the AJ will be financially too expensive. I suppose we could absorb into Swinton's plans but, again, there would be opposition to that.
This is not asking for Salford to be treated as so special as it cannot be lost. Just that it is in existence because of him.

| Hang on there Angelic Cynic, he's done some good things (Sheens, name change) but with the money he's got and the money he's already put in he should've made a far bigger impact. Sadly he wasted the momentum he had when he took over and now seems intent on just arguing with the RFL and trying to create a victimised status.
The CCJ's didn't stop immediately, there have been numerous issues with suppliers at Salford under Koukash, not to mention of course the issues with paying players.
He has the will and ability to lose a lot of money on Salford, far more so than any other club owner, but we need him to lose that money in the right way so that in the future he won't have to lose any. Because, at some point, he'll stop. And if at that point Salford still need him to lose lots of money then they're no better off than they were before.
He HAS to start spending PROPERLY on club infrastructure. Build up the off-field operation. It should be the biggest and best in the league that attracts all kinds of corporates etc to the stadium. Which then (on top of getting more income & sponsorship for Salford) allows Salford to negotiate a better deal/do more things with the stadium. Make it a proper home.
That money and off-field operation can also reach out to the local community and actually get them involved. Sadly most RL clubs think sending a couple of players out to an amateur club is enough, it's nowhere near, he can do something about that.
It's also a complete joke that he asked the fans to fund the academy. Salford's academy should be the best run, best coached, best resourced academy system in the country. Sadly IIRC it lost its academy status didn't it?
As a sport we have to do everything we can to try and get Koukash to do the right things. Because people like him are rare in our poor (in terms of wealth) sport.

| If Koukash needs help on how to run a rugby league properly from fans, maybe he's in the wrong line of business.

| I have some sympathy in that the level of points deduction seems harsh compared to some of the points deductions we've seen before/not seen before. But then the RFL has never operated with the same level of consistency that the Australian game has. I would say the RFL is somewhat arbitrary with these things, but that would suggest the inconsistencies are not deliberate when they probably are.
Having said all that I am deeply sceptical about the motivations of the good Dr.

As for a new start
Clubs can and do continue without substantial director financing. They have some degree of success as well, via astute and sensible business plans being put in place by the club's board. This isn't enough to establish a top SL team, but without the bedrock of teams in the other two divisions (such as Swinton, surviving quite well on crowds of around 500 or so) then RL itself will die.
My hope is to have the chance for my team to cross swords with the likes of Salford in the middle 8's. For those that berate the new format of competition, our season would now be over without it. As it stands, we have 3 ultra important games to go to the end of the season (Fax, Batley, Bradford and Fev all being strongly in the mix, especially as a few games are between them) - these would be dead games without the middle 8's to strive for.
All the very best to Salford (unless, perchance, they play Fax in the 8's), but Koukash should take the punishment on the chin and move on.
