| Paul Charlton is the greatest full back GB has produced. A measure of how good he was is that when the "immortal" Graeme Langlands retired St George's preferred choice to replace him was Charlton, but he rejected the offer to go down under.

How he can be bothered keeping up this charade makes me wonder if he’s all there.

I am sorry but you are wrong. This is a good learning experience for me and the other readers.
I made a bad call putting James Roby ahead of his predecessor Kieron Cunningham. I may have made a time period blunder in naming Karalius. I probably made a mistake in choosing Jason Robinson ahead of Martin Offiah. I am going to research the reviews of Paul Charlton. So I have learned something from the serious criticisms. But I think some of the younger readers will have learned something by being exposed to the historical names that they may not have heard of.

| I can only speak about the last 30 years ......... and of the seven players you've included from that period, I'd leave out at least 3 (Davies, Roby and Burgess) out of the starting XIII
Lydon
Robinson, Schofield, Newlove, Offiah
Myler, Gregory
Hanley
Sculthorpe, Goodway
Ward, Cunningham, Graham
subs: Crooks, Peacock, Farrell, Edwards

| Davies
Robinson/Drummond
Schofield
Newlove (on ability)/Senior (on longevity)
Offiah
Myler
Gregory
Ward
Cunningham
Graham
Sculthorpe
Farrell
Hanley
Peacock
Morley
Platt
Roby
Peacock on the bench is no reflection of ability as he's right up there with Graham and Ward (just watch Ward in that Third Test in Australia - he literally eats the Kangaroo pack alive)
Picked Roby because most teams tend to rotate hookers. There could be an argument for Lowes.
Looking at the above - it's noticeable that we have REAL problems in the centres and halves. Had Scott Gibbs played longer in League I think he would have walked in.
Thought about Harris - but his lack of pace was always a big turnoff for me.
Picked Myler mostly on what-might-have-beens. Personally, I think Tommy Martyn is destined to be forever overlooked (even in fantasy lists). Aside from possibly Jamie Lyon he's still the most naturally gifted footballer I've seen in my lifetime at Knowsley Road.
Possible inclusion of Edwards and I guess Dennis Betts might feel a little hard done by.
Drummond lacked Robinson's footwork - but he made up for it with balls of iron and the ability to run devastating diagonals, which I can't remember anyone repeating or even coming close.
Crooks is one of those should-have-beens. He had as much talent as you'll ever see in a forward. But his fitness often let him down and I honestly think he p!ssed away most of his career.
I can understand some people arguing Newlove was quiet in big games. He was. Yet I think it would be utter insanity to leave out someone whose inside-outside step could bamboozle even the best defences (see Wendell Sailor in the WCC vs Brisbane). No better balance have I seen in a centre. I'll never forget him falling upright the best part of thirty metres to score was it a hat-trick at Old Trafford?
On the issue of Gregory. He was a superb player with outstanding vision. But if the game can't produce a single challenger to him in fifty years we have serious junior development problems.
The back row is clearly the strong point of the team. Perhaps it's not the best idea to play two loose forwards in the second row. But as the Australians have proven time and time again - great players can adapt.
There is an argument which says Farrell should be listed at prop. He certainly played his best rugby there.
If I think of any additions or deletions I'll post.

If you would base it on how they actually performed in a GB shirt, how can you have Cunningham in there?

What Lewis and Van Barnevelde props, Taylor hooker, bak row of Priestley, Part and Van Gerwen. Not that mobile but we'd beat the Kiwis for size.
I'm struggling in the backs Keith Dellar for Full back and Jelle Klaasen could be a nippy little half.
Scott Waites on the wing he's another big lad but has te self confidence to be a good finisher in the corner by backing hinself to go on the outside.
