Agree with that. I'm hopeful this expanded comp can provide a bit more reward for the team finishing top. I also think the league leaders should get a substantial financial reward and a much, much better trophy to give it a bit more gravitas.
As for the comp itself, personally I think it should be:
UK -
Challenge Cup winners
Grand Final winners
& league leaders (or next highest placed)
v
Aus -
2 Grand Finalists
Minor Premiers (or next highest placed)
Whilst I understand it's not always possible to get the Aussies to do what we want, I think our side of it would be better that way. We have 3 trophies and 3 WCC spots. Seems a nice fit to me, and gives a bit of a boost to both the cup and the league leadership.

| The reason it's not the CC winner is that its a super league comp not an RFL comp so the CC is irrelevant to them.

They're all RFL comps. Super League is an RFL comp.

| I think highest league position has been confused by some.
Making the semi's in the playoffs negates the ACTUAL league positions, if Catalan had finished higher than Warrington it would be
Wigan, Saints and Catalans, sod all to do with money because Ken Davy, yeah, he's a poor man isn't he?

If I remember correctly the qualifiers were going to be:-
LLS winners
and the two grand finalists.
If one of the GF teams had already won the LLS then a place would be allocated to the "third placed" team, which many took to mean third in the league table.
There was a little confusion as if Warrington had beaten Wigan in the Semi-Final it would have been Warrington, Saints and...huddersfield.
It was clarified that 3rd RANKED meant the best of the losing semi-finalists, although at the time how this was decided was unclear. I have seen one version which said its Warrington because they lost the semi-final by the fewest points, there is another which says its Warrington because they completed the table part of the season in a higher position than Catalan
All seems a bit "contrived" but I can understand it from the POV that as far as SL standings is concerned, league table is irrelevant as to who is champion after 27 weeks, so I suppose for consistency it has to go off play-off placings (again, league table is irrelevant).
I can also understand the logic of CC winners not being involved as this is a SuperLeague competition.
For my own two-pennies-worth I would have it GF winner and CC winner, LLS winner (adds a little extra to each of those comps BUT just how much extra depends on who successful this becomes). If a team does the league/cup double then the losing finalist from GF, CC in that order takes the place...... Still a place left ? Go off league table position.
Of course this whole arguement may be academic in the future if this format doesnt work, either with the fans or with the NRL teams (lets face it......its a final and two friendlies put together to try and make a showcase on the back of the teams splitting the cost of the travel !)

| Going forward (if it lasts long) I agree it should be the winners of the 3 trophies on offer that get the spots. Seems like a good fit. Can't see the Aussies taking the two friendly stood seriously and therefore cannot see it lasting IMO

It will depend on the gates at the matches and the TV audience to decide if it is a winner or not the Aussies like winners and money

What a positive attitude! I'm an unadulterated Lancastrian, but I've watched Leeds (and Bradford) take on Aussie opponents in the WCC with great relish, backing the British club all the way. Granted, this first year, with the new format only being decided half-way into the season, qualification was not that clear. Apart from that, we've got three great GB v Aus matches to look forward to. What's not to like?

Yes they will. Just because your team doesn't stand a chance of ever being involved that's not true for everyone else. Not every team in Yorkshire is sh|t every year.

if you say so, I think people would rather watch one game with meaning, for a genuine prize. But I guess that's just MY OPINION.
