We've gone from residing in the playoffs and still signing players who are regarded as being better than those departing (one or two apart).
Craig has indeed set-up with the help of Chester and numerous other members of his team, a very good youth structure and the development of the younger kids has been much improved.
This, however is not enough for a first team coach. He is judged on his first teams performances and that alone and for this reason he has gone. Yes I think Chester forced Neil's hand with his comments of being ready to take the reigns but I am sure if Neil felt that we would achieve success under Craig he would have allowed Chris to take up another role at another club.
I doubt that the financial payment will be much short of what he would have got had he stayed until the end of the season and I'm sure with his contacts around the globe he won't be out of a job for long. As for a head coaching position, his win % is not great so I doubt we'll see him in the top job in a top league anytime soon. (He may prove me wrong with this though).
