If they relieve him of his duties then it makes no difference to the fact that under his contract he is due his money just the same. Dismissal claims are not relevant.

Whether he can be shunted into a different role depends entirely upon whether that is provided for in his contract, if it is, he can be, and if it isn't, then he can't.
