Seems the big guy is also driven by political correctness/people pleasing. Very sad.

Utterly clueless. Get rid.

If he's not prepared to make the decision and put his head on the block so to speak he should give back some of the ridiculously overinflated salary he is on or step aside for someone who is prepared to do so.
He comes across as scared to death in most of the interviews I've heard from him.'"
I think RL has a structural leadership problem that anybody would struggle to manage. The thing is, the PL made a clean-ish break from the FL (to the FA). Not that it is always a model of good governance.
SL broke away, then came back sort of half-heartedly. Partly in search of an arbiter, I suspect. The RFL are seemingly obliged to consult the SL clubs, who have an effective veto [iand[/i disparate agendas.
I've seen the RFL mocked for a lack of leadership and criticised just as much as for trying to railroad things through (notably the new league structure). Just as there are complaints about the big clubs calling all the shots and moaning about the tail wagging the dog. Nobody has enough political capital to take a lead, so we get a fair bit of half-baked compromise and general drift.
I'm not surprised Wood sounds scared - he's trying to manage some big (mostly northern male) egos, from a very, very limited power base. Fair enough he gets well paid for it, but if he pleases one constituency, it es another one off most often.

| Might be unfair to blame Wood in this instance. Didn't the clubs vote for the Stobart deal last time around? There seems to be a lot of other stuff decided this way too. I'm not sure whether Wood can even take decisions of this magnitude off his own bat.

| Whilst Wood is not someone who fills me with confidence. It's the structure of SL that causes these problems.
How stupid would anyone look to say this is the deal, only to have to back track when the clubs vote it down.
Your saying he should make the decision but he can't. It's like saying the British Government should make a decision over EU migrants. Well they can't as the decision and power does not lye with them it lies with the EU.
Wood may have a prefered bidder, but if 8 clubs prefer someone else, or just want to vote it down then they can. In effect the RFL just has a casting vote in the event of a tie.
As has been mentioned above the only reason this is the case is because the SL came back to the RFL as the clubs needed a final decision maker for when they could not agree.
Just look back 2 months to the walk out. The clubs can't agree, the RFL don't have the power to decide. It's a mare.

| If there is either 1 offer or even a choice of 3, then surely the clubs shouldn't be slow in committing to something, especially when there has been naff all for the last 2 years.
Let's just hope that the potential sponsors are patient.

That is what has annoyed me lately. Lenegan came out with all this nonsense following the Grand Final and people have inferred that he was criticising, amongst other things the Stobart deal. Yet last year at the Wigan end of season dinner he chose to make a little video saying how great their sponsorship was and that we should all stop talking the sport down!

| Really surprised this wasnt tidied up sooner whilst we basked in a world cup afterglow.
The RFL are putting more pressure on themselves the longer this goes one.

| Maybe the fat controller had a tie up with 888Bet in the pipeline to go with his crackpot new 2x12 to 3x8 league structure which was scuppered by the rebel SL clubs.
To be honest I'd rather go without a sponsor than the ridiculous league structure Wood wants to force through. Can see season ticket sales plummeting if it goes through.

| Didn't majority of super league clubs vote for the much maligned stobart deal? I'd stay away from that consensus if that's the case

Yes he does. In fact, Premiere League bosses have little power themselves, and are at the mercy of majority voting by the club chairman on all significant decisions. The clever ones, like Scudamore and their very first Chief Exec, Rick Parry, have subtle management styles where they can convince the collective chairmen that policies tabled by the Chief Exec were actually thought of by the chairmen themselves. By contrast Peter Leaver, who won the best ever TV deal to date ( at the time ) by the clever ruse of hiring as consultants the two former senior Sky TV sports execs, was sacked because he did this without consulting the chairmen.
Soccer is generally boring on the field but fascinating in the machinations off it.
